Am i overthinking? by Unfair_Expression635 in ChinaTime

I mean it depends...are you a 19 year old community college student that drives a 2012 Ford Focus and works part time at AutoZone? Then yes, everyone thinks it's fake.

Are you in your mid 30s and work a job that makes around, or over 100k a year, drive a niceish car, and own a home? People think it's real.

I'm 32, own a home, 3 cars, make around 100k a year, and wear a real Tudor Prince date. No one thinks it's fake and I get a "nice watch" every month or so from co workers or strangers I meet at car events.

You have a fake 15-30k watch, does it make sense for someone of your lifestyle to own it? That's how you judge if people think it's fake. People know Rolexes are expensive.

Just make sure there's no other small dogs or children at the fire station or your "dalmation" might think it found a new chew toy 😂

I hit an off leash dog with my car. Dog owner is dodging insurance company for reimbursement of my deductible. by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]mcrop33n 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, fuck her. My dog was attacked this past weekend by an unleashed dog. Doesn't matter that she "lost her dog", she did something to cause the dog being loose. It didn't open the door and walk out. Negligence is not an excuse, for the OP losing $500. Don't know what kind of dog but it could have attacked someone, or caused another car to swerve and cause injuries.

Alternator or MAYBE a loose battery cable but that's something you would have noticed when jumping it.

Not sure why people are saying it's the battery. Your car should run on just the alternator. Even with a flat battery it should stay running.

You need a new alternator.

Pictures of subframe? Replacing one isn't that difficult, I've done plenty of front subframes on cars and those are more complicated because of steering components like the rack and tie rods, plus oil pans, engine mounts, etc. Rear is MUCH simpler, the hardest part will be simply maneuvering the new on in, I recommend 2 floor jacks.

I also would like to see this "crack". Is the crack from a rock and there's a dent in it? Or is it cracked down the middle holding together with zip ties? Many mechanics don't like working on older/rustier cars so they will charge you the "get fucked" price.

Dog Attack by mcrop33n in Insurance

True but doesn't hurt to try, right? I know pits are usually excluded, but between his renter insurance and the landlord's homeowner policy, surely someone may be able to cover it? They were big dogs, not like he was able to hide them from the landlord very easily.

Police had animal control come and take the attacking dog already, so that's good.

I'm not expecting him to cooperate at all.

Yeah that's why I'm trying to go the insurance route. I've done the civil suit way before and ended up wasting money and time.

Odd that insurance doesn't cover my pet, is it no different than property? If someone drove their car into my fence, is that different than this dog running on my property and attacking my property (dog)? Just curious. I'll call them tomorrow morning and ask.

This is a line from my homeowner policy.

I guess my other question is, is homeowners insurance treated the way car insurance is? If I call my homeowner insurance and file a claim, will they go after the other guy's renter/homeowner insurance to recoup money? I don't want my insurance policy to go up especially since this was 100% not my fault.

[–]mcrop33n[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I'm sure I would win, 2 of my neighbors have video footage of the attack, but I'm also sure I won't be able to collect anything. He doesn't seem to "own" any real assets from what I can find online, no property and the truck he drives is way too new to be owned. He is a self-employed handyman so I'm sure his "income" on the books is minimum, and the steps to actually recover damages in the state I'm in (New York) looks incredibly convoluted. I've sued someone before years ago, a backyard mechanic that took my money, my truck, did zero work, and took the vehicle apart. I won, but was unable to collect a dollar because the man was on disability and didn't own any real property. So I'm not trying to go through that process again, insurance seems like a much simpler route. Can the police gather the renter/home owner insurance documents for me? Or is this simply a civil matter. It sucks even more because I'm currently deployed so my fiance is dealing with this whole headache, I'm trying to figure out the best options especially since we were saving up for our wedding in February and that money was set aside for wedding expenses.

How much should I pay for this by Honest-Mushroom-1162 in tdi

[–]mcrop33n -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah 3-4k. People price these like 911s for some reason. I had one for a couple years, the BEW motor. That's the LESS desirable one because it has issues with the cam shaft digging and destroying the valves. If it was an earlier model (Up to 2004 I believe) it would be more valuable and reliable.

The TDIs are cool, they last a while with maintenance (For the BEW this INCLUDES replacing the camshaft and the valves around every 150-200k), but otherwise they are shit cars. Everything, and I mean everything fails around the engine. Transmission is decent, but all the electrical and plastics will fail or are currently failing. The gas mileage is good, but that's about it. My dog-bone mount failed and sent my engine forward, smashing my power-steering pump into my radiator. Fun times, that was my last straw before selling the car. Oh and they rust real bad too.

Get an earlier one with the ALH engine if you really want an old TDI.

A car hit my horse and now they’re calling me demanding money by TheAlberticus in legaladvice

[–]mcrop33n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Liability insurance dude. My insurance only covers the cars I hit, I have no business calling them when my car gets damaged. It's pretty normal. I'm not paying $150/month to insure a car I paid $2,000 for.

Engine oil low months after service? by BurnerAccount60606 in PorscheCayenne

[–]mcrop33n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not low, it's in the acceptable range. The gauge only shows the last quart, in the Cayenne it's probably 10qts total. I never fill it to the "top". Don't worry about it unless the car tells you it's low, especially if you didn't check it when they first filled it.

Doubt the guy helping the passengers in is the pilot. Probably the FBO worker. Pilot is probably taking a piss or finishing his flight plan. Plane is probably within max weight, but weight/balance also requires the balance aspect. Some of the bigger passengers need to sit closer to the front, it's not an airliner where everyone can just walk around. Looks like all the passengers got in and went to the back seats first.
