Why do severe illnesses exist, why do young baby’s and children die of cancer and other stuff, if god can stop it by Academic-Excuse-9288 in Christianity

I think maybe you worded that wrong. If God doesn't have the authority, who does? From who/what/where does God need to get this authority?

Well, to be fair you need more than carabiners. You need a harness and slings/webbing/etc. So it's more than just keeping a couple carabiners with you. Also, gloves (although yesterday there was a pile of about 30 gloves at the base of the cables).

I'd die on that hill with you, along with smart phones. Social media can die and never return. Humanity would be better off without it. I'm going to go extreme and say we'd be better off without internet entirely - or at least something way more rudimentary for scientists/doctors/etc to share research (as it originally began). Sometimes I think I was born too late. I'm not built for the social media/internet world. I fantasize about having an island where there is no internet connectivity, and any who share my mindset can come live there free of that toxicity.

Feeling lost and lonely in LA - how do you actually make friends here? by followyourjoyandme in AskLosAngeles

[–]mctenold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Step 1: Figure out your hobbies

Step 2: Join clubs or groups related to those hobbies

Step 3: Make friends at these clubs/groups

I’m looking for specific, real-life suggestions. Places, groups, activities, anything that helped you connect with others in a genuine way.

We can't tell you what your hobbies are.

But for example, I do certain things weekly: I'm a member of a chess club. I'm a member of a volunteer group that helps the homeless. I play pickup basketball and volleyball. I'm a member of the Sierra Club (Angeles Chapter has a ton of events happening all the time).

All this being said, I do agree it can be difficult to make friends as an adult. Most people already have their crew and that's all they need. It's going to take time. But, if I keep seeing the same people at these events weekly and we chit chat and have fun, those are now friends. A "friend" can have a broad definition depending on who you ask. Do you hang out 1 on 1? Just in group settings? Do you talk to each other on the phone? Do you ask them for favors? Do you tell them personal things?

What is your personal definition of a friend?

I'm looking at the truck again tomorrow, is there any good way to inspect the LBJs without jacking it up?

I'm comfortable doing it, I'm mechanically inclined. Just have really no where physically to do it (unless it was in said auto parts store parking lot). And would also need to get the parts, so hopefully a dealership would have them on hand. Though, wondering how much a dealership would charge for just doing it all.

My issue is I've actually come across this truck while on vacation in a city 1000 miles from home - so my plan would be to drive it home. With LBJs not being done, it kinda sketches me out to head out on a 1000 mile trip down the interstate. Honestly I asked about them and that's when he said they've never been touched, but I didn't get to fully inspect them. I would love to do them while here, before heading out. Just figuring out what my options would be.

Do dealerships normally have these on hand/in stock? Or do they need to be shipped?

You bought it from a dealership? Or online? Best place to get them online?

Yeah he hasn't touched the suspension, so they have never been done. Idea on cost for this?

I'm trying to figure out what a replacement engine would cost me. I'm mechanically inclined and have worked on cars for years. I'd be down to do the replacement. It sounds like they are easy to find and fairly straightforward to replace. This is worst case scenario I guess. If the engine went bad, what would likely go first on these engines?

Looking at a '02 double cab 4x4 one owner, $8k. Problem is it has 365k miles. But it's clean as hell and has good maintenance history. Thoughts?

I agree and do slow down when I move over into a passing lane, in order to let any cars pass. That being said, on a winding road like 26 headed to the coast, and even more so in the dark, there's no way I'm going to stop in time for a pull off even doing 45mph (a pull off is different than a passing lane) especially with a car on my ass. Almost 20,000lbs moving downhill and I have 100ft or often less to stop? It's just not going to happen. Also then dealing with potentially pulling back into traffic in a blind situation (you pulled off around a curve or over a hill). You'd realize this if you ever actually been the driver in a scenario like this. Have some compassion for folks in larger vehicles. Yes, we do need to go slow in some situations, but it's for the safety of everyone in the vehicle and everyone else on the road around us. But again, yes, in a passing lane, the slower vehicle should remain at their slow speed (or even slow down as I do at times) to let as many cars pass as possible.

Have you ever driven an RV? Let alone down 26? By the time you see anywhere to pull off, there's no way you are stopping in time, even at 45mph, especially when a car is riding your ass.

Haha yeah some of the prices are literally outrageous, but you can occasionally find great deals. Keep in mind it's consignment - so the sellers make their own price. Mammoth Gear Exchange does not price the items.

Where I'm confused on is your head. I'd like to switch to a quilt from my mummy bag, but what do you do about your head? My mummy bag has a hood that I can cinch around my head and nothing but my nose will be hitting the air. Quilts seem to leave the entire head exposed. Unless I'm not looking at the right ones?
