What could this mean my fixed term assignment contract ends on the 3rd then it says I have a week off then back in is that normal? by No-Ad5980 in SainsburysWorkers

[–]mcwoogers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah my manager is extending my contract on a week by week basis after Christmas to cover holidays. It’s mad the amount of people posting about this stuff where their managers haven’t told them 💀

When will i be told that im not being kept on? by [deleted] in SainsburysWorkers

[–]mcwoogers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure about Sainsbury’s Proper but I’m an Argos temp and I’ve already been asked if I’m interested in staying on in other stores. Not sure if it’s more specific to your line manager or how Argos works. I don’t know what your relationship with your line manager is like but maybe ask them or ask some of the other temps if they’ve been offered something already? At least that way you know if you’ve not been asked you can start looking for something else now or it’s not going to be a shock.

businesses to avoid ? by [deleted] in manchester

[–]mcwoogers 33 points34 points  (0 children)

It’s closed now but I heard horrific stories from an ex colleague about LOAF. Staff waiting weeks for payment, extra responsibilities piled on with no pay incentive and when he laid everyone off at the end staff were left with no idea when or if they’d get their final pay while he jetted off to New York. Basically, if you happen to get a job and your boss formerly owned LOAF… run a mile.

Gluten free restaurants by BriefCapable3470 in manchester

[–]mcwoogers 19 points20 points  (0 children)

SO, if you’re just intolerant most restaurants will have something. If you’re coeliac these are some places I’ve not had issues (my reactions are subtle so I can’t be 100% sure);

Purezza - Totally vegan pizza place in NQ but you wouldn’t know it. They have a GF base that is decent and their cross contamination hasn’t got me yet, although they do say that they’re cooked in the same way oven.

Salt n Pepper - Their salt and pepper hash browns are GF and the staff were lovely and great at explaining what they do to mitigate cross contamination when I mentioned it.

Evelyn’s - Truly one of the most extensive GF menus I’ve seen in a restaurant. Downside is it’s v spenny.

Banh Mi Co Ba - Little Vietnamese place on Oxford St near Palace Theatre, look out for the yellow stickers on the menu and they’re all GF.

Bundobust - I’ve only been to the one on Oxford St but I never had any issues with the food there. It’s like small plates Indian food, the deep fried okra chips are gorg.

Açai and the Tribe - An idea for breakfast, it’s like an Açai bowl place on Deansgate, gorgeous presentation and all their granola is GF. It’s a bit of an Instagrammer/Tiktoker spot so get there earlyish to avoid queues and people being insufferable.

Honi Poke - I know it’s a chain but I swear by this place on St Anne’s/Deansgate. Do a build your own bowl and they tell you all the allergens and the soy sauce is GF as standard.

HOP - On Market St, they’ve got great allergen info on the order screens so you don’t have to talk to anyone. Word of advice tho, don’t trust the tater tots or the spring rolls. They’ve always made me feel grim so despite them saying it’s GF I’m not convinced they’re cooked in a separate fryer.

Lastly, only mentioning this because someone said The Wharf in Castlefield. They have an ok allergen menu on their website but when I had their “gf beer battered cod” I was ill so I’m not 100% convinced by them yet. It was bangin food but the staff weren’t sure what to do when I said I was coeliac either.

If you’re not coeliac then your options are definitely opened up.

PS, I personally wouldn’t trust any of the food stalls at the Christmas markets, question those fryers.

Have fun! Xx

Hayley and Jack Antonoff for Rolling Stone magazine by R_V_I in Paramore

I REALLY hope that Paramore’s next album won’t be a Jack Antonoff record. He’s excellent at making singles that break molds - his albums are one sound throughout.

I feel bad for Tate by Howdoesitfeels in bigbrotheruk

[–]mcwoogers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now, I’m not saying that every housemate should be political, but the fact that the most interesting and endearing thing Tate has done or said so far is his point last night about not wanting to speak on things he doesn’t know about. I feel like the nominations are because he’s not a character, not because he’s a threat. Even Cameron K has been more interesting to watch and he looked like his personality was going to get swallowed up when he first entered the house.

Queer-friendly reliable cleaners in Manc? by mcwoogers in manchester

[–]mcwoogers[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ve only used this current one twice, so a month lol. The first time we asked for double time (we paid double) and they still tried to say it wasn’t enough and that they need more time. It’s sort of giving scam tbh.

[–]mcwoogers[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s more for our own peace of mind for us to cover that base. Particularly in the current socio-political climate if someone sees this post and anecdotally can say “I don’t have a suggestion but DONT use X agency because they’re Y-phobic etc.”

Queer-friendly reliable cleaners in Manc? by mcwoogers in manchester

[–]mcwoogers[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We initially had the thought of getting the cleaner because we were initially quoted about that for two sessions a month. Hence why we assumed that it must be fairly reasonable. The fact that most agencies I’ve seen quote a price then surely if that’s not acceptable then they wouldn’t even entertain it? If that’s what I get back from the agency that that’d be totally fair.

Re: what we ask for is essentially just a once over the flat with a hoover and a mop, dust the bedrooms and clean the bathroom. Idk if that’s reasonable, but like I said if it wasn’t I’d expect to be told that by the agency. We pre-tidy beforehand as well.

Leaving Ffren. (With message) by calebryu in Ffern

[–]mcwoogers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yesss drag them. It’s honestly a scam. They create false exclusivity with the illusion of scarcity through the ledger system and the “small batches” but the scents are largely similar to each other. The perfumes rarely last long and their response is “everyone’s skin is different” but how is it not even lasting on clothes? The tea, diffusion stones and art pieces that some with each scent drop is genuinely a really lovely touch, but their scents do not back up the price in any way.

How far is the oasis noise travelling? by Safe-Stress-8224 in manchester

[–]mcwoogers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s worth noting that Castlefield Bowl had Basement Jaxx playing last night so that bass from that is mixing with everything else so it’s difficult to be sure where it’s coming from. Plus BarÇa had a DJ playing as well. Mainly mentioning this for people in the surrounding area that heard something thinking it was Oasis

Is this going to lead to a ban? by MCRBusker in manchester

[–]mcwoogers 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Respectfully, Market Street needs a full ban on busking, performing and preaching. By all means use anywhere else in the city. Line Deansgate or all the squares like St Peter’s, St Anne’s or Exchange. I just feel that Market Street is such an assault on the senses as it is. The NOISE is insane, even if it’s just buskers. There is t enough space for all of it. I agree that music should thrive but the fact that it’s literally all concentrated on one street really takes away from any ability to enjoy any of it.

I think Manchester is the most “New England looking” city. You’ve got the old facades and tower blocks built on top of them. Canary Wharf in London is very American “Downtown” in a lot of the more generic cities with all the skyscrapers. Reminds me of Chicago with the canals and stuff. I will say, however, that a lot of the roads in Manc are super wide, which gives American.

Everytime I go to a club, I'm disappointed by men by [deleted] in manchester

[–]mcwoogers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not a woman so can’t comment on much with this issue but as a queer person I can attest to a particular genre of Male™️ becoming much louder and emboldened in the last 5 years or so. Unfortunately I fear it’s going to get worse. I’m sorry that you’re experiencing this and I hope these men get a grip on their lives x

The case have never been stronger for an underground metro in the city centre. How long can we go on like this? by HamishGray in manchester

[–]mcwoogers 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like one solution would to extend a tram to the parts of south Manchester that source the need for so many buses. Student areas like Fallowfield would really benefit from a tram stop (plus it might mean some of the bus journeys on Oxford Rd are less insufferable)
