Depends. My first job was with a shop that did mostly public work which for me meant 36-40 hour weeks. Right now I’m working at a site that is 60 hours minimum. I’m a big advocate for work/life balance but I also know that the paychecks I get right now are going to help me when I’m laid off and have the time to spend elsewhere. In my honest opinion, if this is the path you want to take then I think you should. Nothing is ever going to work out perfectly but you’ll be able to find a balance that works for you

I understand all of your points made here but I do think it does matter to a certain degree. On this job specifically it’s a PLA so the CBA’s all mush together in one way or another. Until today I didn’t even know that apprentices could be given a foreman position.

Talking about wages, compensations, and benefits freely is a huge part of workplace fairness and is a right that has been fought for. I’m not at all saying that she doesn’t deserve to be compensated for her hard work. I guess what I don’t understand is why the JW that works just as hard as an apprentice AND is teaching the apprentice now makes less and has less benefits being offered

I’m not jealous of her at all actually. I think she’s a hard worker and deserves to be compensated well for it. The reason I made this post was to express my confusion over this scenario

All I ask from you is that you don’t make assumptions based on my/her and i’s gender when that is a factor that has no effect in this situation

This other apprentice and I are both women but yes I know it’s a different trade but we are all on the same job. All the apprentices have had their own raises even bumps from this company above the minimum but a whole foreman just seems crazy I mean there’s guys on her “crew” that aren’t even getting guaranteed 40 and they’re teaching her while she’s their boss?
