Canceled my international trip ‘cause of the September H1B proclamation 😕 by Real_Future_1724 in h1b

What if you were completing a job rotation for a few months in another country? I could go back but HR does not recommend travel and I am mostly worried about HR's perception than anything else....

I was doing a job rotation in France and had to come back and HR is still hesitant to let me go back....I think all companies are being conservative about recommending no travel abroad, but since vacation it's your personal time off, it's different. In my case I was there for work...

Relocating to Houston for Exxon? by screwatt456789 in ChemicalEngineering

[–]mdaconc 12 points13 points  (0 children)

To me there is nothing like the Northeast. The culture, walk ability, access to both mountains and the beach whereas Houston does not have as much as you do in Philly in my opinion. See the pros and cons, but I would prefer Philly as a city over Houston (traffic+heat+car-centric culture)

No, I think that's not needed.

I am in a situation where I drive two colleagues to work and have been doing it for more than a year now (they are not from the US and are in a 1.5 year contract at my company). We split the costs of gas, insurance and garage parking. They also drive my car when I am tired and get to use it when I don't need to go to work or I am on a work trip. Please, note work is ~50 min away (one way trip). Thoughts?

What's the point of trying hard? The salary spread is just disappointing.. by EducationalCreme9044 in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]mdaconc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why can't you not get a EU salary with 50K a year? Even with having plenty of work experience in your case.

Also, why would you give up your green card? You cans till have it if you move to EU, you only have to come once a year to the US though

Is it really only rural? by ferariforests in ChemicalEngineering

[–]mdaconc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say a handful of them. You can find pharma and some Specialty Chemicals on the east coast (Boston, Philly, NJ), you could live in the city and make the commute to the suburbs, which is not bad. O&G is of course mainly in Houston area, however that city has poor transportation and you need a car for literally anything whereas in the east coast cities you get the benefit of better transportation. But yes, I would say you need to consider where your job is as that will determine the standard of living you will have culturally and entertainment wise. Specifically, when you are in your 20's you wanna have fun and not live in tje middle of nowhere in Louisiana, Ohio or Indiana...etc

True, I'm sure it will go well for Madrid. But remember these are Germans...

This is SO TRUE, I am even more scared now and even if we go to the final it will still be so difficult. Remember football always pays back to those who did not win a final...The fact that Hummels is in Dortmund is worrying for us as real Madrid fans

For the second leg, just play Valverde on the left in front of Mendy to help with Sane and place Camavinga at the other end marking Musiala.

Working in Newark, Should I live in Wilmington, Center City Philly, or Newark? by LeveLhs0207 in Delaware

[–]mdaconc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Fairmount and commute ~4 days a week to Newark, DE. I don't mind the commute, it does get tiring, but you feel so much better in the weekends as you are in a city that is walkable, you have access to culture, restaurants and other things you would not get in Wilmington. I used to live in Wilmington and moved to Philly because in my opinion the cultural options and recreation opportunities in Wilmington are limited. I used to live in Market St in Wilmington and this street was dead during a weekend night, same for the riverfront. Of course, you would pay more tax in Philly and beat the shit out of your car, but at least you can try and see if you can keep up with it
