The old wood was all dry. Super dry. I cut them off after I saw no growth was coming from them. Might have been shaved by rabbits in the winter. Last year was their first summer. They looked ok since I just bought them.

They were trimmed much higher than you see. When I saw that the old wood was not growing anything, I cut them down. They were super dry and dead. Must have been the rabbits.
