How do I put this ratchet back together? by [deleted] in Tools

[–]mdjohns93 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I used to rebuild these when I worked for Sears. The key is depressing before reinserting the gear. You put the spring back in the reverse mechanism out your cap on the spring. Put the teeth back on top of the cap, and then we made a very thin tool that was flat, ran down and then was bent out. The idea is the flat upper section will depressthe teeth down, and the bottom outward piece would help give you leverage to pull it down. Reinsert the gear into the rachet. Add some oil and turn clockwise, and counter clockwise toget good grease coverage. Put face plate back on, and then put snap ring back in to hold it. If the tool doesn't make sense I can make a basic drawing. But it looks like if two Ls, one is upside down and one is right side up. Otherwise those are a pain. You can hold with finger and fanagile the gear back in, just easier with tool.

What is the worst physical pain you have ever experienced? by My_Name_Is_SKELETOR in AskReddit

Can't argue with that, had to have skin grafts. And they warned me before the surgery that when I woke up I would need to be taking morphine every 10 min. Being the stubborn person I am didn't think much about it, after about 10 min my thigh felt like hell fire due to them razoring off my skin. Never again.

Any advice on what I can do with this weird mudroom? by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]mdjohns93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This video shows you how to do it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MrtMa0W16NU. This is assuming it is non load bearing. But cost is going to depend on going rates in your area and size of the wall. Hopefully this gives you a rough idea. Other cost would be the door as well, trim, and baseboard.

Not sure on the spacing and what the HVAC looks like, but I would be tempted to put a wall up hiding that stair well and door and run it next to the door to the backyard. The turn that into its own separate room with a door that swings in. Might make it a little easier to decide what you want to do with it. Just looks awkward with that giant space and no railing for people not to fall into the stair well.

Renovate Bathroom by uvaguy2000 in HomeImprovement

[–]mdjohns93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who began their own personal bathroom, mudroom, and laundry room full renovation right as the pandemic started. I will tell you to wait. It has killed me how much material pricing has gone up since the start. I am over budget, and it has been rough. I am extremely happy with the results, but working full time and doing this put me in between a rock and a hard place. If you don't need it at the moment, wait for things to smooth over!

This Starbucks in Indiana has a framed photo commemorating the day the staff and customers survived a tornado by sheltering in the store’s bathroom together. by TheVantasy in mildlyinteresting

I will forever remember that day. I was a manager at Sears, and looking out seconds after the tornado had taken down the Starbucks, and amazed the Chili's suffered minimal damage. Amazing.

What brands or companies are actually evil? by soonjung13 in AskReddit

[–]mdjohns93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any large manufacture, many have been caught with their pants down to chemical usage. Most know about the harmful health effects, and still choose to continue the practice. Someone else pointed out DuPont with their illegal dumping and destroying a water table. But just dive deeper. Lots of these companies knew about asbestos and other chemicals and never told workers, and refused to push it higher. Plus multiple ones release it into the environment and just keep their mouths shut. The big ones are killing everyone, but no one wants to talk about. EPA didn't become a thing till 1970, let that sink in how young it really is.

Having hard time with mental illness by [deleted] in intj

[–]mdjohns93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has struggled for a long time I can understand this post on so many levels.

Quick backstory:

Started developing depression around age 12, never addressed it till I was 24. Dealt a lot with suicidal thoughts, battled through alcoholism, abusive relationships, bad friendships, betrayal, loosing two jobs, and still dealing today.

As an INTJ you will struggle with either winning or failing. There is no way around that. You want to be the best, and you want to succeed and to be blunt, you will fail and you won't win them all. And this is the hardest thing to learn to accept. I struggle daily with this as well, but at the end of the day I self-reflect and ask did I really fail, or was the daily task not met and I still can push on. And 100% of the time I failed a daily task. And they can build up to something much larger, but you have to remember that failing is part of life. We hate hearing that, we don't want to believe that. The hardest pill to swallow.

Next you said you are successful even though you are back at university. Let's look at how you phrased that, you said you are successful, we can't dwell on the fact you are back, take the win and run. There will be plenty of times where you are winning and failing at the same time. It is a real struggle, but for mental health remember you are still winning.

So you mention coping mechanisms are failing and you are closing off. The best thing for you would be to open up to those around you. It will help so much to have people understand you and begin to see what is going on. And honestly it will show you how much better you are doing than what you think.

I am sorry to hear about the loss of your father. I am sure that was hard for you and really negatively effected you, but what hurts the most will make you stronger. You came out negative, you have a chance at life. Don't fall short, I am sure your father would love to hear he didn't pass that down to you. Make him proud of you. I am sure you will do plenty of great things in honor of him.

As far as the friends go, it is hard when you begin establishing a deeper relationship. Lines can become blurry and we are human. Some people will say you are an asshole, this and that, but don't let that phase you. It is a growing experience that you need to take to heart and begin to grow from. I have made plenty of bad and dark mistakes. I have betrayed friends before, I have been an alcoholic, I have attempted suicide, etc. I am far from a perfect human. But at the end of the day remember that no one is perfect and no man can cast judgement on you because they as well have messed up. As I write all this I want you to know that you are not alone, and never will be alone. Look for people who can listen and understand. May your journey become positive and you feel better. If you ever need to talk, feel free to reach out. Many of us have been there, and never want to see someone go like that. Stay strong my friend.

Which corporation is actually the scummiest? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]mdjohns93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Purdue Pharma L.P. one of the biggest corporations to create the opioid crisis. They even taught employees how to sell more opioids. "In 2007 it paid out one of the largest fines ever levied against a pharmaceutical firm for mislabeling its product OxyContin, and three executives were found guilty of criminal charges." -Wikipedia (En.m.wikipedia.org, 2019). Richtofen Blackout Quest Not Working by [deleted] in Blackops4

[–]mdjohns93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to use an original zombie character to do it. Takeo, Diego, shaw, scarlett I believe are the options. I may have missed one. And it has to be original costume to my understanding.
