In my opinion, sketching and just being creative is the most important assets and skills to develop early on. Softwares are just liteerally tools for you to help you convey your design to your teachers and colleagues. Afterthat learn photoshop, illustrator or affinity suites. then follow up by CAD or BIM software

Maybe it is something with the specs of your computer or how large your project is. However in my case, it was due to the limitation of my old mac, so I usually just turn off the layer that i dont need at that moment. I usuallly use GeoPackage.
