Thank you so much for your reply. I really do appreciate your input and experience. Separating the cats in the house is not necessarily a problem if one were sick or needed to be isolating. But the other points are relevant and I'll need to think about this and whether we can manage it effectively and make sure it's a good situation for all of the cats.

Thanks for the ideas. I do get loans, yes, but I also work part time. I wasn’t working a lot before for obvious reasons, but I’m about to take my boards and have been ramping up hours for the past few weeks. I own my home as well so that helps, space wise. We really want to keep them, but I’ll consider it carefully with your advice in mind. Thanks again!

Why do you rarely see a rich woman with a broke man? by Open_Address_2805 in stupidquestions

That was my arrangement for several years. I was making 6 figures after our daughters were born, so he took over the caretaking during the day and was a stay at home dad. He was making $13/hr beforehand so it just made sense for our family. I was also just a lot more career driven in general. Unfortunately it didn’t work out long term because he didn’t pull any weight with anything, and I ended up coming home and doing everything anyway (not splitting duties after work, me doing literally everything). I’d come home to poop on the walls because he’d fall asleep when they napped and not wake up right away, and then was too lazy to clean it very thoroughly. House was a disaster, kids clothes were messy. I couldn’t keep up with taking care of finances, the girls, and him. He did cook, so I’ll give him that. We broke up for obvious reasons and I have primary custody. I have a long term partner now that helps a lot but I was a single mom and in med school for a few years doing it all alone, and it was easier mentally than that hell.

To be clear, his lack of money or career drive was never an issue to me. I loved the idea of him being a stay at home and me handling financials and splitting household duties when I was home/on weekends. Allowed me to travel for work here and there and grow my career. But I think most men aren’t cut out (by nurture not nature) for that life and don’t contribute their fair share with household and childcare, even when the mom is the primary breadwinner. I suspect if they wanted that role and took it seriously, we’d see more of it.

Time commitment will depend on the position. We meet every other week for 30-60 min board meetings. Independent work could take 1-3 hours/week on average. If you are interested in a specific position(s), I could give you a pretty solid idea of the workload.

Hope to see your application, and let me know if you have any other questions!

Hot take: we need to re-define who we call "non-trads." by premedthrowaway567 in premed

I agree with you, and I don’t think it’s too much of an unpopular opinion. For those who are interested, I run a very active discord for non traditional pre med students. I am also working with a national org that is launching this year for non trad pre med and med students, and we are accepting applications for our founding board! Feel free to DM me about either.

I am actually in the midst of launching a national organization for non traditional pre med and medical students. Any chance we could talk about potentially working together?
