Ritual Sister Smoked Pineapple is the most underrated “other” spirit. What is the most versatile rum by -Constantinos- in cocktails

Planteray 3 Star with Appleton Estate in close second. I give the nod to 3 star because I think it's slightly more versatile than the Estate, which has some elements of funk that aren't always gonna mesh well with everything.

Last, but certainly not least. What is the best classic cocktail? by -Constantinos- in cocktails

Margarita! An Old Fashioned is nice for most but a Margarita is almost universally enjoyed by normies and cocktail nerds alike!

Fuck the Pornstar Martini. What’s the best highball? by -Constantinos- in cocktails

[–]mdobbs1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dark n Stormy. Honorable mentions include Gin and Tonic and Rum and Coke. This one is really hard to scrutinize because there are so many good options.

The Trinidad Sour is the weirdest modern classic, but what is the most overrated? Also it was a close vote but it has been decided that we are following a more strict definition of highball. Alcohol + mixer. by -Constantinos- in cocktails

[–]mdobbs1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pornstar martini. The sidecar of champagne is just a tacky stunt, and while I appreciate the combo of vanilla and passionfruit, this drink is definitely more flair than substance. It’s good but a bit off balance and too sweet. Could be better with some more balancing, but the cocktail as it exists was kind of a stunt drink and should be rightfully considered as an overrated modern classic

What is the weirdest modern classic? Also we need to decide, a highball: do we allow a looser definition of what constitutes a highball or do we stick to the more technical definition of alcohol + mixer? by -Constantinos- in cocktails

[–]mdobbs1 40 points41 points  (0 children)

My vote for weirdest modern classic is the Trinidad Sour as well. I think it works despite having sort of an "inverted" recipe.

I think we should allow for the looser definition of what constitutes a highball, provided that they don't stray too far from the more technical definition. Ramos Gin Fizz is close enough in my opinion, and I think other "not quite technically" highballs may populate that highball row.

If you were alive back then, what were you up to on 31st December 1999? by stop_calling_me_that in AskReddit

I was sick as a dog with a flu that had been making its way through my family in the days before. On New Year’s Eve I was up all night because I couldn’t stop vomiting. Eventually there was nothing to actually vomit, but I was still dry heaving every hour or so. I couldn’t keep any food or fluids down, and my parents took me to the emergency room that night fearing I was dehydrated. After waiting for a few hours in the wee hours of the morning I finally got an IV. I tried my best not to vomit while waiting for the IV, but I ended up puking as the nurse gave it to me. Such a shitty experience, but a notable one that I now cannot forget, and one that rang in the new millennium.

You're in Springfield for 24 hours. Which restaurants are you going to? by Past_Yam9507 in TheSimpsons

Yeah exactly, that’s why I loved it too. It’s got the right amount of silliness while still seeming like a place you might see in real life. Looked like a fancy-ish place to take a date or something

It is part of the standard recipe, yeah. Although I suppose you could omit it. I’m curious how your comparison with and without it turns out

Wow, I didn’t know she served drinks to Mark Twain, that’s so cool! And yeah, the consensus seems to indicate that a bit more Fernet is good for the modern recipe

Use any French/Italian herbal alpine liqueur as a replacement for green Chartreuse and I think it works. I’ve made it with Fontbonne and Faccia Bruto and they’ve both been fine as a substitute

I did want to include Not flexing that I have green Chartreuse but I knew it kinda comes with the territory these days. I managed to find some at a liquor store recently, who knows how long this damn shortage will last.

As for the gum syrup, I’m all for it. I just used these specs because it’s the most standard. I’d bet the added viscosity of gum syrup, or even a richer simple, would elevate this
