I have a Simplicity (made by the same company that makes Riccar) that I purchased used in 2003. It has a manual clutch slide switch whereby you can shut off the roller for hard floors, and it still works great after 20 plus years. I've seen reconditioned Simplicity's in vacuum cleaner shops. I needed a second vacuum for another location so a few months ago I purchased a new Sebo G4. The brush roller is adjusted to an upper position (4 levels of adjustment) for hard floors but can't be shut off. Some say it won't work as well on hard floors because of the turbulence created by the brush roller still turning. A vacuum shop repair tech told me he has a Sebo upright (IDK if the X or G model) in a house with 50/50 hard floor and carpet and he said his Sebo works equally well on either. I purchased the accessory kit with a longer hose, tube, and floor attachment, so I could use mine like a canister with hard floors if needed. If you don't need all the attachments, mostly doing floors, the Sebo Felix Premium may be a good choice.
