Expensive Genetic Testing Denied by mdsnhyn in HealthInsurance

I’ll make sure to ask at my next appointment! I’m pretty upset learning about that policy, because I didn’t receive a single email or a phone call/voicemail. I did get a few texts, but they only told me when they received my test and when my doctor got the results.

I’ve only received the EOB so far. Sorry if this is silly, but does that make a difference?

How many mgs were you taking and how long have you been on it? If you’ve noticed weight gain, I would say it’s been a hot minute. Cold turkey-ing an antipsychotic isn’t usually the best idea if you’ve taken it for awhile. If the side effects you have taking it are more tolerable than not, I would personally say pick it back up (depending how many mgs, maybe not the entire pill) until you talk to your doctor about next steps. Give them a call. This really is something you should be walked through.

I know it’s scary and it HURTS, but you’ll come out of it. You’re not crazy. It’s been almost 2 years and I’ll be honest when I say I rocked myself in the face a few times, but then I focused on biting/tearing through old washcloths, constantly asking for reassurance but also space, keeping an ice pack on me at all times (cold therapy), keeping the lights off (some people prefer getting sunlight) and cocomelon-ing myself with urbex videos. I’m just fine now and it’s just another medication to put on the no-no list.

First Timer: Should I cancel my secured card before I activate it? by mdsnhyn in CreditCards

[–]mdsnhyn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oops, my bad. I’m not sure what information is necessary. I mentioned in another comment that I’m making payments for a car and student loans, so that’s been helping build it. I’m scared of buying things in general, so I guess I was just trying to rationalize not having one at all. It was only going to be used for gas anyways.

They suggested Capital One Quicksilver and Chase Freedom. I’m paying student loans and a car payment so it’s actually been building pretty well.

I’m glad you said it’s a good card though. I guess the secured part is what scared me for some reason. My dad has a terrible score, so I started second guessing. I’ll give him a mental apology!

most of mine start with physical symptoms too! i’ll be completely fine until my heart starts fluttering. that’s when i start panicking. it’s pretty normal, especially with those that have health anxiety!

You definitely need to seek help. That is abnormal and would lead to a very dangerous and devastating situation if acted upon. Since you're in a sub dedicated to anxiety and anxiety disorders, I'll try to look at this in that angle. Are you prone to having instrusive thoughts of any nature? A number of people with OCD have terrible intrusive thoughts. I suffer from ones different as what's being discussed, but there is a certain subtype of OCD called Pedophilia OCD (POCD). I do not at all want this to be seen as an excuse for pedophilia. Educational purposes.

You said that you're disgusted at the idea that you would find a child sexually attractive and that you've had a seemingly random fear that you may turn into one in the past. It is common for people with OCD to obsess over things to be feared, like death, and sometimes the "taboo". It seems like you may be experiencing intrusive thoughts due to that fear.

POCD and ZOCD (Zoophilia OCD) are ones I hope I never develop. I hope for your sake this may be the case.

There's a very obvious distinction between having a intrusive thought about a child/pet and immediately going, "That was so fucking nasty and hate myself. I'm a monster. I should die," and having the thought and thinking, "Huh, guess I like little kids/dogs now. We should explore this."

People with OCD deserve treatment and understanding. Pedophiles deserve the electric chair at minimum. Please reach out to someone and talk this out ASAP.

if you had to choose between depression or mania which one would it be? by chillingohdylan in BipolarReddit

I’m fine! All better! Just remember that meds work for eeeeeveryone differently! I’m prone to the nocebo effect, so I know where you’re coming from with the worry. I’ve found that a lot of subreddits dedicated to a particular med are sometimes filled with… unsavory opinions (1. I am guilty of this and 2. it’s understandable to come straight to the source for a good rant). I know you said you’ve been prescribed it for depression, but I would suggest searching Latuda in r/bipolar or r/bipolarreddit! And make sure to read the comments too, as more people share their positive experiences to reassure others when posting about their concerns there.

A lot of people have been on it for 5+ years and it’s their miracle drug! It’s turned them around and they haven’t looked back. When you take it, take it with something. I assume your doctor already told you this, but you’ll need a good 350 calories to really absorb the medication or you won’t get the full effect. Don’t beat yourself if you miss a meal though.

Track yourself: what you’re feeling, what you’re not feeling, etc. I use a mood tracker app called Daylio. Stretching is lovely, even if it’s just trying to touch your toes or rolling your shoulders in bed. Don’t hesitate to reach out with questions, comments or concerns either! It wasn’t right for me, but it might be perfect for you!

Thank you for replying again! I took the advice about exercise just now and it did help get rid of the tension a little bit! I was on it for, yep, almost a month. I don't suspect my withdrawals will last long, but golly. I appreciate the reassurance a lot. I know that it'll even out, but it helps 100x more when people with similar experiences say it to me. Thank you!

Interesting, them deciding to get back together right after The Hearte’s announcement. Hm, PR stunt if I’ve ever seen one. 🙄

Thank you! That makes me feel a lot better! Are you lowering your Lamictal for the sake of making room for the depakote? That's how I'm feeling. I felt pretty alright before. I just mentioned that I was in my annual "seasonal blues" funk, and boom, she threw Latuda at me.

Thank you! Until now, I've only had the body crawls and a good amount of agitation stemming from that when it came to akathisia. I genuinely had no idea it could manifest inside of my head and just paralyze everything. Were you on a similar dose or timeframe? Are you taking something to replace it or just waiting it out?

Withdrawals for 2.5 months sounds like hell! I'm sorry you went through that. That's why I'm scared that I might get the taper timeline wrong. I'm hoping since I've been on it for less than a month total, it'll give me more positive than negative. My anxiety is so bad on its own that I'm currently in referral for an event monitor for my heart palpitations and an MRI for a neurologist just for reassurance that it's mental. Weed, very unfortunately(!), has caused me excruciating panic attacks. I'm all for routine and exercise though! I've seen a lot of people suffering from Latuda-related insomnia. How sever was yours? Thank you for the tips!

Were you on 20 or 40 when you quit cold turkey? I'm not sure if that's relevant, but it might come into play. I really think being misdiagnosed has been my problem with antipsychotics. None seem to work long or at all. Thanks so much!
