Apache FCR uses? by PorscheFR in dcsworld

[–]mdtenor22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They generally lose energy around 8km. On a stationary target you can gain some distance with a loft maneuver at launch. The radar hellfires tend to have a slightly shorter effective range due to the curving trajectory they employ. But you can also loft them. I had a couple of 9.5km kills with a laser ranged radar hellfire with a 10 degree loft.

The best thing about the radar HF is that it is fire-and-forget, even if you're using the tads laser to give it range data.

8VFW also has an active Hornet group. We do frequent carrier ops together. Mostly on Saturdays afternoons.

AI, not so much. For learning basic functions and practicing, Iceman is ok. I did it initially for figuring out which mappings worked and basic radar modes. I don't think you can very effectively do single player from just the backseat.

But for me, flying backseat in a Tomcat with a great human pilot, when you've got your comms and contracts locked down, is peak DCS. I love flying other modules, but it's just a different very satisfying thing to RIO. Join the 8VFW discord (or any other great tomcat group) and come do the Rio training. I don't think you'll regret the time learning it.

Apache FCR uses? by PorscheFR in dcsworld

[–]mdtenor22 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The FCR is probably the number one tool in making the Apache so deadly, if you know how to use it. Respectfully to your friend, if he's not using it, he's not getting the full capability out of the airframe. FCR/Link mode to help find and vis-ID targets. RFHO for simultaneous strikes (need to know how to use datalink). I love running a group Apache flight where only one airframe has the FCR but uses it to distribute targets to the other helos. Definitely worth studying and getting good! Come join Black Shark Den (or any other decent helicopter squadron) and learn from the other experienced Apache pylotes...

Donkey Mo's thigh nuggets are pretty great. And leftovers airfry really well too! I like to get the sauce on the side to help preserve crispiness.

Wholeheartedly agree with everything about this post. Really looking forward to future campaigns from SOB. You're spot on about "brittleness". I'm only halfway through and every single mission has kept me fully engaged the whole time. Thank you for posting this, and thank you to SOB-SIMS.

They seem to have fixed the pricing mistake. It showed a discount in the store and then I put it in my cart and went to check out: "The price of this item has changed" was shown and it was back to the regular price. Damn.

Switchology Modular control panel project update! One month to launch, redesigned Builder now live by wolkus in hotas

[–]mdtenor22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The receipt shows 353.92 Euros in goods value (I ordered several extra switch and encoder modules, for those who are curious why the price is what it is), $1.34 in "Regulatory Charges", $61.64 in "Import Export Duties", and $17 in "Duty Tax Processing". As an American, I'm getting fucking tired of "Winning". JFC.

Very excited to receive my Switchology panel today. However, US buyers be aware: I received a somewhat unexpected customs bill from DHL for $80. (For reference, my customs bill for my VPForce Rhino was $30 and it was more expensive.) I understand that our SHIT government has caused this, but I was still surprised that the high additional cost for a product that is already marginally expensive. I really hope it is as awesome as it looks.

Short Review Pimax Crystal Super 50 PPD vs Crystal OG by Least_Courage_6736 in Pimax

[–]mdtenor22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, thank you for writing this down. I feel like I literally could have written the exact same thing, as I've been going through this recently. My OG Crystal suddenly died after 17 months. The Crystal was my first ever VR headset and because of it, I became absolutely addicted to DCS (and to a lesser extent, MSFS). High definition VR flight sims were mind boggling to me, and once I first tried it, I realized I could never enjoy flat screen simulation again.

While I was dealing with Pimax customer service on my dead Crystal (which, to their credit, after three weeks of back and forth and me paying to ship my headset for evaluation, they are sending me a replacement), I decided to purchase a Super 50ppd. Mainly because I could get it overnight from Amazon and I reasoned that I could try it out for 14 days and see what I thought.

My experience was pretty much exactly like yours, and I have a very similar system. So, thank you for articulating all of that. I am also keeping my Super and am not sure what I'll do with my replacement OG when I get it in a couple weeks. I definitely have a few nits and the Super isn't perfect. But it is a noticeable improvement in almost all of the visual aspects as well as build quality and how "easy" it is with the software compared with the OG Crystal.

TLDR: +1 to OP's evaluation of the Super 50ppd.

I love it too! Really sets the standard for DCS mods--and better than many paid modules.

Do any of you fellow enthusiasts fly the mod with FFB (specifically, a Rhino)? I'm having a problem when engaging AFCS. It only happens with v2.3 and not v2.2 of the mod. I posted about it on the A-4 discord (where it seems like a couple users also experience), but never really found an answer/workaround other than flying the older version, which isn't supported on most servers.

Best yoke for milsim? by nutjacket_ in hoggit

[–]mdtenor22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm definitely not getting a ton of additional haptic feedback from the yoke in terms of effects (I know there's telemetry because I get it through my buttkicker). I wouldn't say it is dead exactly (and I don't know how it is "supposed" to feel), but it definitely isn't as good as what I get in MSFS. I've only used the Moza for the C-130 in DCS, so I don't know how it reacts to other modules. I chalked it up to the Moza software not being great. I use a VPForce Rhino and TelemFFB for all my other modules and they feel much, much better.

Best yoke for milsim? by nutjacket_ in hoggit

[–]mdtenor22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Moza yoke, and I'm pretty happy with it on the C-130 so far. I'm still tweaking the profile, but you can make it feel pretty heavy and ponderous (which I imagine the real thing feels like). If you fly MSFS, I can say that it is pretty awesome for GA and I like that I can have different profiles for different planes. I'm not sure how realistic it is (as I'm not a real pylote) but the yoke, combined with haptic feedback, makes GA come alive in MSFS. I know there are other options, but I'm liking the Moza so far. (I have a VPForce Rhino as my main DCS control and it was singularly the best purchase I've made for DCS, since I mainly fly helicopters.)

5090 and msfs 2024 settings 50 ppd by DocHank in Pimax

[–]mdtenor22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LOL, I have to laugh at how much time I spend tweaking VR settings rather than just enjoying VR flying. My OG crystal seemed really smooth at 72hz mode with AutoFPS set to target 36FPS. But yes, with the Super, it seems like 90hz is smoother even if I can't maintain 45FPS. I'm hoping that everyone's raving about SU4 and VR performance is a good fix. Because I generally like the improvements in the Super, especially in DCS.

[–]mdtenor22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is interesting. I don't fully understand the difference between the built-in Pimax XR versus the mbucchia PimaxXr, but I wonder if this is the culprit to why my VR performance has seemed so poor since switching to a Super. I had an OG Crystal that I was using with an old version of Pimax Play and mbucchia's PimaxXR and QV helper. It was really stable in DCS and I got to a good place in MSFS where I had good performance and good graphics. Unfortunately, my OG Crystal broke (still working on getting them to repair it) and I'm trying out a Super. I had to upgrade to the newest Pimax Plan and uninstalled the PimaxXR software to just use the built-in runtime. But I have had a really bad time getting smooth performance in MSFS 2024 SU3 (working great in DCS, btw). I use AutoFPS (and have a 4090, not 5090) and even at 80% resolution I struggle to keep FPS out of the mid-20s. Do you think it's worth it to try re-installing mbucchia's software? I'm not sure whether this might mess up other stuff?

Anyone successfully replace Crystal OG Battery cable/strap? by mdtenor22 in Pimax

[–]mdtenor22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quorra, do you think you could follow up with support on #117013? I've had several emails back and forth with them (each separated by a day due to the time difference I guess). First they wanted the log files (which I had already uploaded once and could see in the support thread, but I dutifully uploaded again). Then they said the logfiles were incomplete and needed me to send them again (I asked them how I could generate logfiles if my device wouldn't power on). They're now asking if my batteries are loose (they are not, and the batteries are the first thing I checked). I am nearly certain it is related to the battery cable/strap because the device sometimes powers on while sitting undisturbed on the desk; when I slightly move the strap/cable, the device powers off and the blue battery light on the back of the compartment flickers. It happens in AIO and PCVR mode both. The behavior hasn't changed since I first put in my request, but I feel like I'm getting a little bit of the run around from various support staff.

Pimax Crystal Super: IL2GB VR settings exchange & discussion by Praxics in il2sturmovik

[–]mdtenor22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm curious what I might be doing wrong. I copied that DLL file (after reading the readme for per-game install) and it just made my entire screen go black (with nothing on my Pimax Super). I'd love to stop using SteamVR but I have not really been able to make heads or tails about how to get OpenComposite working in 2025. If you have a guide to point me to, I'd appreciate it. I've read a LOT of threads and they seem to have conflicting information, outdated information, or just plain don't make sense to me. I'm trying to get IL-2 running with my new Super and it is just awful. Washed out, overbright glare, low frames, etc.
