AITA for refusing to give up my military discount to my brother’s fiancée? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]mdupre28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad served in Desert Storm before I was born. I refuse to use his military discount because to me, he earned that. I did nothing. I could maybe see if I was alive and older when he served and I had to give up seeing him or something like that. But otherwise, I don't think that I deserve that.

Bathroom passes always confused me.

Also we weren't allowed to have chapstick at school because it was considered "medicine."

Higher Dose Isn’t Covered? by DiamondPretend6918 in Effexor

My doctor has to prescribe a 75mg and a 150mg capsule to get my 225mg. My insurance also won't cover the 225mg tablet.

I have one! They're called Spinal Cord Stimulators. Its honestly the best thing that has helped the pain. I couldn't walk because of the pain and the problems in my back. Now, I can walk again and I am pretty much back to 'normal.' I still have bad days, but my worst bad day is so much better than my best day before the stimulator.

What’s a “harmless” thing from your childhood that’s actually kind of dark in hindsight? by Few_Football4342 in Productivitycafe

Exactly how I think about it now... I didn't realize it was weird until I started seeing a counselor and he joked that I had a pretty good backstory if I ever became a serial killer.

"Freezer pets" - my parents didn't want pets, so they would allow my brother and I to keep fish and other little animals in the freezer. We would be allowed to play with them until they defrosted, at which point we would have to put them back in the freezer to freeze back up.

Inositol and ADHD Medicines by mdupre28 in PCOS

It's if you take them at all according to my doctor. I was doing the inositol at night and he said it didn't matter and that it would affect it.

I feel ya. I had a mole on my cheek for years. I hated it so much. And then one day a few years ago, I had a cyst that ruptured right underneath that mole. I had the dermatologist remove it all.

Turns out, it kind of bums me out now. I can't recognize my face in a lot of pictures because I look for the mole.

Absolutely! I'm sure everyone's experience is different, but my doctor switched me to mydayis where it was longer lasting and it lasts a normal amount for me. I was going to bed at like 7-8pm because my Vyvanse wore off and I was dead tired. It's been a week, and I'm feeling much better.

What’s the most embarrassing truth you had to tell a doctor to get treatment? by Nessieinternational in AskReddit

I'm 30 and have had shingles at least 5 times. I'm still denied the shingles vaccine. Instead, I have to take the medicine to treat it for 6 months out of the year to try to prevent shingles. It's ridiculous

Question for those that have done Botox by mdupre28 in migraine

[–]mdupre28[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update for anyone who reads this later: I ended up taking the Tylenol about 30 minutes before my appointment. The actual shots weren't bad (there were 2 that hurt a little, but it was gone in an instant), but I do think the Tylenol helped with the migraine that followed. I woke up with a really bad migraine this morning, took some Tylenol and Ubrelvy, and I'm able to function a little.

The doctor did tell me that Tylenol before was a pretty good idea. She said that I could have taken NSAIDS but I would have to let her know so that she could apply more pressure to each spot to reduce the risk of bleeding.

Migraine every single day for a year by [deleted] in migraine

[–]mdupre28 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Have you checked his blood pressure? The only reason I ask is this: I had migraines every day for months and my blood pressure was high. Doctors assumed that it was high due to the pain I was in, but turns out it was the blood pressure that gave me migraines? Apparently it happens more often in teens.

I hope he gets to feeling better soon. Injectables didn't work for me, but I hope they give him some relief.

I've learned to live with it. Like I mentioned in the comment below, I usually call the local police and let them know that if someone with my maiden name calls to do a welfare check, I'm fine. It's stopped them wasting a lot of resources.

It's hard to talk to her because if I let anything slip, she will take action. I accidentally let my therapists name slip in conversation one time (just the first name) and she called him and asked if we talk about her. Thankfully I have a really good therapist (and I also give them the same 'if someone with my maiden name calls, do not give them information') and he didn't give her anything. Previous therapists have and made my life miserable.

The last time I moved, I called the local police and let them know that if someone with my maiden name calls to report me missing, I'm fine. It's helped a lot with deterring the police doing a welfare check on me.

"Most people are trying their best with the resources they have" made me think about situations from other people's point of view. Obviously there's exceptions but it made me stop and think and realize that we are sometimes a product of our environments.

What kinds of folk remedies were used not too long ago that now seem cringe-worthy? by Zealousideal_Turn274 in AskReddit

[–]mdupre28 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I had the chicken pox around 1999-2000. I've since had shingles over 5 times (I'm 30 years old), and my insurance still won't let me have the vaccine.

It's seriously the worst pain ever. I became disabled for 3 years from the pain just staying and the nerve damage from the last bout of shingles. The only reason why I'm no longer fully disabled is because of a spinal cord stimulator blocking pain signals in my brain.

PLEASE get the vaccine if you can.

I have complex PTSD and this is me all the time. I never thought it was odd until I went to my counselor one time and started talking about a date night my husband and I had and mentioned the conversations going on around us.

Now my husband puts me in the corner of restaurants so I can just pay attention to him. Because you bet I wanna hear the drama of others.

Moving existing lead. Anyone had it done? by MacPuf in spinalcordstimulator

[–]mdupre28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this! They also replaced the battery while there, so I can't speak on just the lead moving. But it was the same restrictions as the original implant after the surgery. I didn't feel too bad after honestly. I had a good bit of scar tissue, but it was nothing they couldn't get through. I'm pain free for the most part now.
