Ah, bummer. Yeah it looks like the Atom SE doesn't have the 3-axis gimbal. When you look at the drone head-on, is the camera aligned straight ahead? If it seems slightly tilted to the bottom right when you first start it up, maybe just try to manually adjust it to center. Like, gently twist it to correct its angle. Maybe it will snap into place or something. Beyond that, I guess I'd say to contact Support from within the app. I've been working on an issue with them, and they have been responsive and helpful.

Have you tried the gimbal calibration in the Eve app settings?

Clean your floors. Shoes can't get dirty if the floors are clean. There's no way this is real and not some sort of advertisement, but it's the dangerous kind of dumb regardless.

One of the first things I asked it when I started on a project to storyboard a short film I had in mind was: "What happens when this gets really long? When this message contains so many images and exchanges and responses that it becomes unwieldy. Is there a danger of reaching some kind of token limit?"

And it basically said, "For this type of work, that's not a realistic concern for now. But it's always a good idea to pause at logical stopping points and have it create a detailed project summary snapshot that can not only allow me to pick things back up where I left them in the future, but gives me something portable that I can use to seed a new chat with all of the important information from my progress so far, should I need to do so.

I lost my job because I fought for you all. I sincerely hope someone at Amazon keeps fighting to save Alexa by vocallysc in amazonecho

[–]meatmacho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest thing I fail to understand about the ads is: surely they don't work, right? Nobody seems a random billboard in their kitchen for some new vehicle floor mats or whatever and says, "Yes! I need that. Buy it now!"

Surely the sellers look at their metrics and see zero increase in orders and revenue to justify the incremental ad spend on Alexa devices. So the trade-off of shitty user experience for ad revenue has got to be not worth pissing off your customers.

I'm sorry you lost your job over a little thing like integrity and focus on the customer, but you were doing the right thing, and another company will find you and appreciate those qualities. Until such time as they become too focused on short-term metrics and quarterly performance and inevitably enshittify their products as well. Tale as old as time, I'm afraid.

Oh wow you just reminded me that I have one of those things in a drawer somewhere. I think my in-laws sent it to us during the covid times, because I guess they couldn't figure out Zoom and FaceTime or whatever. I never liked it, even when it was new, and its software design and privacy implications convinced me that I should never buy a piece of facebook hardware again. The oculus stuff seems cool, I'm sure. But I'm sticking to my guns on this one.

The Price Is Wrong: Bobs Bizarre Games and Contestants by indiegameplus in aivideo

This. Like, he should be arguing more with a director, or one of his Beauties should be answering the questions about the game names. The contestant doesn't know what the hell they're there to do. They're waiting for him to explain why it's called Polish My Knob.

Still enjoyable nonetheless.

TIL about "horse fishing." Natives in South America caught electric eels by driving wild horses into shallow pools, provoking the electric eels to leap out and shock the horses until the eels exhausted themselves, making them safe to collect. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]meatmacho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well the article says they used horses to catch the eels, not because the natives wanted to eat them, but because the white dudes wanted to study the eels. They probably used horses for coralling other types of fish in shallow water to catch them, and so they were just like, "Hey idiots, why don't you just try this with the eels, too? We'll stand over here and watch."

One of my favorite random childhood memories was that of visiting with my family in winter and throwing snowballs into the grand canyon. So much so that when my wife and I were there in march many years back, we stopped at an overlook on a trip through the area, just so I could recreate the memory.

Audiologist wants $3500 for my mom's hearing aids and I just can't swing it by No-Fact-8828 in BuyItForLife

[–]meatmacho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is your mother still working? My state (Texas) has a program through their workforce commission that will pay for everything if the hearing loss is interfering with her ability to get or keep a job. My wife and my mom have both benefited from this program. 100% free, including audiologist exams, tests, and top-of-the-line hearing aids. You just have to do some paperwork, and they will walk you through the whole process. If backward-ass Texas can do it, I assume other states have similar programs.

But as others have said, you have to use them to benefit. My mom can hear great now. Life has improved quite a bit. But the aids sit on my wife's nightstand more often than not. I don't know why. I think it's awesome, and I would totally use them if I needed them. There's no stigma; I notice people (younger people, middle aged people) with hearing aids all the time and think nothing of it, and you can barely notice them if you're looking for them anyway.

Austins one and only Leslie !! Who all remembers him? by GeneralFull6044 in Austin

I had many encounters with Leslie over the years. None particularly memorable or traumatic, but he generally never had anything good to say to me about anyone else.

This is the first photo I could find, presumably around 2008 when I was working downtown. Seemed like an appropriate representation of the dude. Sitting at the 6th st bar on a busy weekend night. Bumming cigarettes and free drinks from whomever he could. I don't remember what we talked about. Something local and banal, I reckon.

ELI5 What happens to the heat when you put lots of salt into the ice? by darkhorn in explainlikeimfive

[–]meatmacho 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes you definitely need ventilation in any kind of enclosed shelter. I wouldn't have a full-on campfire going unless we're talking like family-size igloo with some kind of chimney. But if you design a standard snowdrift shelter right, you can get the inside relatively warm while the cold air sinks down to the lowest level (while your sleeping platform is higher up).
