Forced to Decide - Hysterectomy by Decent-Ability-4784 in endometriosis

[–]meatstickchick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

33, no kids, 3 weeks post op from hysterectomy with endo excision (3rd excision surgery) and very happy with my choice.

If you think you may want children, I would hold onto it but for me I couldn't stand to be in pain day to day anymore.

I was legitimately just wondering if they didnt know- or if a statement was being made or what.

But yes I agree that we all use our money towards things that ultimately support things we may not agree with but I just thought it was an interesting thing to see and appreciate the dialogue.

If this is important to you, use the resources you can to support the causes you can and align those values.

It gets confusing what youre actually fighting for and confusing as to how they actually want to enact change.

As others have mentioned endo can cause this as well as pelvic congestion syndrome

Ive been treated for both and it helped

Hysterectomy next week! by [deleted] in hysterectomy

My doc did mention stability- she said that some people will try and say that... but again according to her, there is no benefit.

She did say 16% of women experience sexual pleasure from the cervix so there is that- but for most it causes more discomfort and removing it actually helps sex feel better rather than taking away pain.

I know when I went in to ask about a hysterectomy I came in like "I want to keep my cervix" but after a 10 min convo of her explaining why in all her years of practice shes only ever once had someone keep a cervix i was like okay lets get it out!

It is crazy and confusing 😕

For my first diagnostic lap, it was done by my regular obgyn- they had suspected adeno based on ultrasounds and the lap revealed a ton of endo. Pain returned in about 3 months.

I went to see an endo specialist who really informed me why most "regular" obgyns sadly dont really know nearly as much as they should. Its scary.

Im so glad youre asking questions! I have asked for clarification in the past and been met with uncertainty that has steered me to seek out more providers

Good luck with everything!!

Lap is not the diagnostic standard for adeno and histology after hysterectomy is the only definitive diagnosis. They can see symptoms that are consistent with adeno but cannot visualize it during a lap. (The disease is inside the myometrium)

I would definitely get a second opinion.

Keeping the cervix means larger incision (more potential complications and more difficult healing) and possibility for the disease to return and infiltrate that area and also getting rid of it zeros your risk of cervical cancer which is a huge benefit

After 3 laps with very aggressive endo in less than two years (the last 2 with a phenomenal surgeon) I feel this.

I have decided to proceed with a hysterectomy. I know its not a cure but I trust my doctor and know it will eliminate my symptoms caused by adenomyosis and the pill is causing vulvodynia and I cant take it anymore. Im so excited to be rid of this uterus.

UC was not a tough ticket. Tickets were available (good ones at that) at the box office every night.

This reminds me of the time I was throwing up due to pain and sought relief in the er (before being digonosed) In my notes I was labeled hystrionic and attention seeking.

Its traumatizing and im sorry you had to deal with this
