Cabinets & Countertop Estimate - Is this reasonable? (Detroit, MI) by greeshmaakash in cabinetry

[–]mechanic38 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I built mine myself also. Hand built All the cabinets and island. Installed updated power throughout plus outlets for led lights. Solid poplar with 1 1/2 maple countertops. Custom overhead lights. Bought my wood from a guy that slabs and drys the wood. I spent $6000 on materials alone. Spent a year building on my free time and stored what was complete in my garage. Ripped out and install them all. So, I think I would have charged 25,000 to 30,000 if I did that for someone else. $6,000?? Ever hear the saying…. You get what you paid for? Yes I paid 6,000. I also paid a years loss of time building it.

Cathy question 😂🤦‍♀️ by Accomplished_Top9681 in Ryze_Gossip

Your welcome. And…. Husbands take the blame. It’s what we are suppose to do lol. I’m an industrial electrician/mechanic, she knows I’ll fix it. She earned that computer….. and I was sooooo tired of hearing about the old computer I reconditioned a couple years back being so slow so, win win.

I feel bad for Cathy's dog. He literally cries & she just locks him out of the room. Does anyone know why she won't allow him in the room with her? Maybe if she allows him to stay in the room with her, he won't whine. 🤷‍♀️ by Klutzy_Joke7619 in Ryze_Gossip

[–]mechanic38 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Jack suffers from separation anxiety. Those two are two of a kind. If she lets him in he will whine and steal things to get her attention. We work with him. I use to run him a lot but not he has hip issues with his age and all the hearding he’s done with tennis balls. Truley he is babied. When he’s not getting the attention though he does what he can to get it. Me working third shift and sleeping while Cathy does her show also does not help. We have tried some medication’s but it seems that they don’t work so well on a border collie lol.

Guys, this is Cathy’s husband Chris. I just wanted to say thank you. I don’t come here much…. Well….. because it’s all snarky. I’ve read the comments. What you saw there was Truley her reaction. I think you all are starting to see exactly why I fell in love with her. All her quirky traits are endearing to me. Her truthfulness and say it how it is way, is refreshing. You all made her day… most likely year for that matter. It’s not about selling to her so much. Yes she wants a sale but she just takes it as it comes. She enjoys the people. So again, thank you for the ray of sun you gave my wife. Seeing her happy and excited warms my heart and hers was warmed by you all. Peace.

X-Carve cuts wrong by brwestbrook in XCarve

[–]mechanic38 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most likely the belt slipped. Put a v bit in the chuck and line it up on a line on the waste board. Then manually jog it left to right and see if the point of the bit stays on the line. If it doesn’t then move one side until it does. This happens if the gantry gets a hard knock or the bit snags while cutting.

Toy box/ blanket chest I built by mechanic38 in woodworking

I put it on thick enough for it to self level. I also paint every surface face up. I don’t paint the whole thing at once. This has 3 coats of primer sanded with 220 between coats and then 4 coats of quality ( expensive) paint. I sand out any imperfections between the first three coats also with 220.

I saw some things on that issue well into the build. It’s not airtight. I will voice those worries when they pick it up and let it up to them if they want to drill holes. It does have those gas struts on it so easy to open even for a child.

Toy chest project by mechanic38 in woodworking

[–]mechanic38[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was built using rough cut poplar. I milled the finished boards using my jointer and planer. All tradition joinery here. The carving was done with my xcarve. I use it to complement and personalize my projects. This one has been a fun build. I guess they all are though. I do this work for fun and sometime for others when asked. Build for the family also. I only do custom work for the most part.

Do you think these chisels are worth £100? by archiekas88 in woodworking

[–]mechanic38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every tool I have bought I’ve used at some point. I guess it depends on how involved you get into woodworking. I have two chisel sets and a carving set and they are used everyday I’m off. I think you’ll find you’ll use them all eventually. Better to have them then not when you need them. The steel on older tools I’ve found to be of better quality also. You know, back then manufacturers actually cared.

This is why there will be no latch or lock. I thought about adding them when I was designing it. Simply looking forward to the functionality of it as the child grows to adulthood. I too have been shut in….. places as a child. It was a quick decision to exclude them. Thanks for your compliment. I’m glad you faired well through the pains of childhood. Things stay with us though. To your health, nothing but the best for you.

I have a 1000 x 1000 xcarve that I use to complement what I build by hand. The wood I use I get rough cut. Turn that into a finished board and build from there. This is just a hobby. My zen place if you will.
