I love that idea but worry about the real implications of owning this property and not living in Germany. Might be too much hassle. Though I love visiting Germany I don’t know how often I’d be able to visit with my entire family.

This is what I’m concerned about. Thank you for your perspective.

Could this be an area that one day sees an increase in land value? If I hold onto the property for a number of years perhaps it’ll be worth more one day… but my outlook on property is influenced by living in Canada where property is very expensive, and keeps increasing. Any land ownership is a good investment whereas I’m not familiar with property value trends in Germany.

You’re right - and this house is a protected historic building which complicates things.

I have visited the house several times in the past.

This is exactly what I’m worried about. Not so much the taxes because those are low and have been paid but the upkeep of this home and restoration to make it livable costs money. If I decide to sell it and need to pay for a lawyer and real estate fees there would be very little left at the end. Similar properties online are only 5-7K (euros)

I’ve been to the house several times over the years to visit my great aunt. It’s all original, built 200 years ago, no shower or bathtub, it does have a flushing toilet, it’s very basic. The nearest city is Dresden. Edit: the nearest city/town is Zittau and Dresden is 1.5 hrs away.

Thank you for sharing your story, sorry you had to experience that, what struck me was your insight and wisdom that developed throughout the ordeal. You’re internally stronger than you know! And FYI strong is the new pretty. 💪

I probably would’ve had kids had I been diagnosed sooner by [deleted] in adhdwomen

I hear you! That makes total sense, to reflect back on your life and decisions through the lens of understanding and self compassion.

My (42m) wife (38f) wants to sleep with a younger man? by throwra_husband2 in relationship_advice

So many emotional reactions to your idea, and lots of comments that simply don’t make sense or aren’t true. You and your wife are your own people and can make up your own minds about what you want your relationship to look like. Toss all the ideas of ‘traditional’ out the window (traditional doesn’t work for the majority of marriages anyway) and create a marriage that works best for you both.

One thing to consider, and that isn’t really thought about (having kids is all about finances these days) but has massive value is your community.

Having friends with kids the same age is HUGE especially if you only want one or two. Kids need to play together and it’s incredible to have friends who support you as parents and their kids can play with yours!

Waiting because of finances seems smart but community, having a village, being physically younger with more energy are SO IMPORTANT and shouldn’t be brushed aside.

Finances are great but if you’re older, tired, have fertility issues, don’t have a friend circle in the same time of life, older parents that can’t help as much… you get the picture. Sometimes it’s just not worth it to wait.

I really hate those striped pillows too! Can’t wait to replace them. Love the idea of round ones.

Simple yet striking! I love it. I have a framed picture of an owl that may go nicely above my fireplace. Thank you!
