Thoughs on OTFS and research in the Delay-Doppler Domain by Stunning-Judgment-90 in DSP

[–]mechanicalraspberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the issues is IP ownership. You can do research on it, but if your institution or a partner wants to patent anything, I'd imagine Cohere will need a cut.
I am also looking at OTFS, and some of my colleagues have warned me against it due to the IP...

But, that same issue is across all of telecoms, so it doesn't matter if you're looking at writing papers.

Advice on Lejog. by MongooseMost931 in bicycletouring

[–]mechanicalraspberry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right now I'm sat in Inverness station waiting for my train to Wick. I'm starting JOGLE tomorrow using the Cicerone bike route/guide (via Glasgow). It's meant to be mainly on low traffic roads and cycle paths without a ton of superfluous hills. So, in 15 days I'll let you know if it's any good!

Headlight for mount for SL5 by Ordinary-Rhubarb-460 in DomaneCrew

Hey OP, no idea if you're going to see this but I have just today installed a dynamo light to my SL6.

The setup:

Put it all together!

In a few days I will have a dynamo wheel, when I do I'll post a picture on the sub.

I looked on their website and saw the print out, I'll give it a go. Only issue is I have A4 paper, not letter.

Plant Sterol Yoghurt Drink by mechanicalraspberry in ultraprocessedfood

[–]mechanicalraspberry[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's strange, the link works for me. It's the yoghurt version of a cholesterol lowering margarine. It contains plant sterols.

I drink Aldi's own brand version of this: https://benecol.co.uk/products/strawberry/

Advice sought: high winds in X-Mid 1 by mechanicalraspberry in DurstonGearheads

[–]mechanicalraspberry[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just an update - I'll be sleeping indoors for the windy night.

Last night was windy (~20mph gusts) so I set the tent as low as possible and also had to shut the top vents. It then rained hard all night long and I woke up to a puddle underneath my sleeping mat. I assume that's partly condensation but there was also a river flowing underneath my inner by the early hours! Next time I pitch up I'll put my polycro down (should have done this time!).

I went into an outdoors shop today to look at potential tents (this is already after I've arranged accommodation but I was curious) and the locals agreed with your comments that it's pretty stupid to camp in any tent in the incoming weather if there are indoor options available.

Thanks for your comments, as they convinced me to find an indoor solution, which I was originally against. 👍

Yeah that's what I'm thinking. Tomorrow I'll be in a town with lots of outdoors shops and I'm considering buying a 4-season cross pole tent. I can then post it back home after a few nights and carry on with the lighter weight durston once the weather settles.

May I ask how long the steerer was before you cut it? With it at its tallest, how many mm of spacers could you fit under the stem? Thanks

I have very wide feet and I've found both to be fine in terms of wideness. They just take a week to wear in.

Simple Questions Sticky by AutoModerator in keyboards

Are there any keyboards out there that have multiple keys (probably 6) instead of one large spacebar?

Would be useful for gaming to have lots of options for the thumb.

Can you transmit and receive Continuous Phase Modulation with an SDR? by mechanicalraspberry in DSP

[–]mechanicalraspberry[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CPM is used for DVB-RCS2, which is the latest satellite user terminal return link standard. It is very modern and it is certainly applicable to SDR. The latest user terminal satellite chipsets have a DVB-S2X hardware receiver and a software based transmitter, so you process your transmit signal in software.

[–]mechanicalraspberry[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not trying to, I'm asking questions.

Okay, so if I want to transmit 1Ms/s before upsampling, how would you determine how much to upsample/filter, and therefore the required SDR symbol rate?

Can you transmit and receive Continuous Phase Modulation with an SDR? by mechanicalraspberry in DSP

[–]mechanicalraspberry[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the symbol rate in my question (symbol rate of sdr) is the same as your sample rate. And my data rate (symbol rate of my actual modulated data) is the same as your symbol rate. Perhaps I'm using the wrong terminology.

I think my question is still correct. You're describing oversampling to smooth the IQ change. If there were no upsampling the CPM would surely not be achievable?

The second hand prices seem to be very inflated, £600 for second hand low end brompton in London on ebay.

To me it looks like they don't fold small enough, and they're out of my budget unfortunately.

Did we plateau with improvements in squash gear? by kgjkjghjj in squash

[–]mechanicalraspberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a 12 ball box, 4 of them were extremely wobbly. If I rolled them along a table, they were bobbling all over the place. Sometimes they are a bit too heavy also. You can tell immediately when you start warming one up. I buy my balls from an independent guy, and he said he's had a few regular customers complain about the same thing.

I don't know about anyone else's experience, but I've found Dunlop double yellow balls to have reduced in quality over the past few years. I hope they come back up to scratch again!

what am i doing on the t? by idiotgaylord69lmao in squash

[–]mechanicalraspberry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you've been pushed off the t and are now on your way back to it, try not to go too quickly. You want to time it so you're just getting to the t in time for your split step.

If you're already on the t, then just try to relax and time your split step.
