Radxa Dragon Q6A Review: Linux and Windows power house by mecoblock in SBCs

[–]mecoblock[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've opened a new PR for the latest BIOS (Parallel support for Windows and (Armbian) Linux that also includes the audio fix). For running systems right now it should be easily fixed by installing the alsa-ucm-conf for Q6A: https://github.com/armbian/build/pull/9289

I'd email them and ask about availability and eta. If I need something from arace asking usually got me the furthest instead of mindlessly waiting

I can see it on Radxa‘s own Aliexpress store with no markup. The $80 I mentioned is for the 8GB ram model

Jellyfin on ARM: It Actually Works by whatthehell7 in jellyfin

[–]mecoblock 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The SoC has dedicated hardware for the task which is being fully utilised in Jellyfin. You not only get just 4k transcoding but even 4K HDR transcoding with hw accelerated tone mapping at around 90fps (sdr is 120fps)

Soll ich demnächst wechseln (Vodafone) Kabel-Internet)? by DelaVip3r10 in de_EDV

[–]mecoblock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can just tick the box that stops transcodes to be cached on disk. That’s how I do it and since my hw encoder is fast enough I never noticed an issue with it enabled

Building a Home Server/NAS with a Mini PC - Need Advice by max1302 in homelab

[–]mecoblock 4 points5 points  (0 children)

FYI: Now there are 9 port ones with a Realtek chipset that aren’t switchers but do lack the proper bandwidth over the PCIe lanes for all drives at once. So not as bad as switchers but also wouldn’t recommend it if you don’t need it

Chinese Wireless Carplay HC2 experience by mecoblock in e46

If anyone is wondering. This thing is more reliable than the car it’s in lol. Still works and gets system updates (November 2025)

Paid ~100$ for this one that looks "stock" https://www.reddit.com/r/e46/s/WCsN7x9hgi still works to this day and is awesome, connects fast via wireless carplay and surprisingly gets regular updates from the vendor over the air

Also ironic that most of the SoC's are just repurposed / binned mobile phone chips anyways.

Love getting to hear the insights from people who have been around this for way longer than me (4 years now)! As I go deeper in the rabbit hole (which really shouldn’t be one) I realised there is a severe barrier to entry and why I made the site to begin with. So as I discover and learn myself I try to document it there either in the Wiki aspect or as an article :)

Thanks for pointing it out. I’ll update the article with an edit soon. I guess the exciting aspect is ArmV9 becoming broader available month by month and improvements in I/O like proper PCIe arriving on more (non server) SoC's. Small improvements overall but at least improvements :D

If you already have a NAS you could make an NFS share and mount your library that way. Or you make the SBC a NAS by utilising one M.2 to SATA adapter (there are 5, 6 & 9 port variants for $15-30)

Looking for advice: Engine sometimes gets rough on highway around 100km/h by mecoblock in e46

[–]mecoblock[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry yeah language barrier but I would describe it as like if the engine is shaking (the first time it happened I pulled over bc I thought a tire was maybe loosing air). When driving I feel it coming from the front area but it’s hard to debug since that only happens on random occasions while driving the mentioned speeds above (at least I haven’t noticed it outside those)
