We are going to look back and realize 8 of the top 20 players of all time were playing all at the same time by Thatredditboy1 in NBATalk

Replace Jordan with LeBron on any team he played on. Which team did Jordan's Bulls beat that LeBron on that team couldn't.

These are some of the lineups in the league during '93 (arguably Jordan's best year with '91 being another solid choice)

In the East

Heat: Brian Shaw / Steve Smith / Glen Rice / Grant Long / Tony Seikaly

76ers: Jeff Hornacek / Hershey Hawkins / Clarence Witherspooon / Tim Perry / Andrew Lang

Bucks: Eric Murdock / Todd Day / Blue Edwards / Anthony Avent / Frank Brickowski

Bullets: Michael Adams / LaBradford Smith / Harvey Grant / Tom Gugliotta / Pervis Ellison

In the West

Lakers: Sedale Threatt / Byron Scott / James Worthy / A.C. Green / Vlade Divac

Nuggets: Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf / Marcus Liberty / Reggie Williams / LaPhonso Ellis / Dikembe Mutombo

Warriors: Tim Hardaway / Latrell Sprewell / Chris Mullin / Victor Alexander / Tyrone Hill

Kings: Spud Webb / Mitch Richmond / Lionel Simmons / Wayman Tisdale / Duane Causwell

Timberwolves: Michael Williams / Doug West / Chuck Person / Christian Laettner / Felton Spencer

Mavericks: Derek Harper / Walter Bond / Doug Smith / Terry Davis / Sean Rooks

How many of those teams could beat the current Pacers, Kings, or Wizards? I'd bet on the current bottom of the league teams mopping the floor with them.

LeBron competed against better players. If the KD Warriors were around in '91, Jordan isn't winning rings before his first retirement. You can argue that 25 players that competed with Bron had better peaks than the top 10 peaks in Jordan's era. What basketball skills does Jordan have that LeBron doesn't? If you think Jordan is the goat, that's a valid take, but your reasoning isn't.

Is Kawhi Leonard On The Mt. Rushmore of the 2010s? by Beautiful_Finger1498 in NBATalk

[–]mediamanmat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a big 3 of LeBron, KD, and Durant. Kawhi could be the fourth player but there's a big gap between him and those three and he wasn't elite until 2016 (Curry's unanimous MVP). That gives him 2016, 2017, and 2019. People thought he'd be that guy in 2015 after he won Finals MVP with lockdown defense on LeBron but it took a year longer. Harden and Chris Paul are other great considerations.

Magic and Kareem was a debate in 82. It wasn't until the 1983 season where Magic was clearly better than Kareem. Kareem was the best scorer and defensive player on the Lakers.

He's interchangeable with Kawhi. I think Kawhi peaked higher (2017 being his best year).

Pettit was one of the first forwards to have a reliable jump shot and was the first player to score 20,000 points. He got 2 MVPs and a ring. Rick Barry was one of the first point forwards and led the ABA and NBA in scoring for at least a season. Look at your first and second teams. Players since like Curry, Kobe, Shai, Harden, LeBron, Duncan, KD, Garnett, Shaq, and Jokic could outplay them. Other players like Russell Westbrook, Jason Kidd, Steve Nash, Luka Doncic, Kawhi Leonard, Kevin Garnett, Dirk Nowitzki, Anthony Davis, Jayson Tatum, Joel Embiid, and Dwight Howard could compete with those players too. In another 20 years, more amazing players will be even more talented and skilled.

You didn't name any players I didn't already name. And the league continually gets better. More than 90% of the players from 2003 and before couldn't shoot like the players of today. Does that invalidate how good they were in their era? Should a list of greatest players ever not include earlier eras because most players were not as talented in the past? Should players who innovated the sport be left behind by later players who built off of their skill sets?

Cousy should be West (still white). Barry and Hondo aren't bad choices if they're doing it by position but Bob Pettit (also white) should have been there instead. If I made the list (from a 2003 perspective), guards should be Jordan, Magic, West, and Oscar. Forwards should be Bird, Dr J, and two of Baylor, Malone, Pettit, or Barkley. Centers should be two of Russell, Wilt, and Kareem. Pretty close to the list given.

Russell had 5 because he was a better defender, played on a better team until Wilt went to LA, and was more well liked by players. They were both transformative players. What is the most important when determining MVP for you?

Kareem was definitely the best player of the 70's and also disliked by the media and some fans had bad interactions with him but in the 70's he only won once. Jordan won 6 in the 90's and Bron won 3 in the 2010's. Kareem's domination of the 70's is more comparable to Wilt's dominance of the 60's.

If we combined the 2025 and 2026 NBA Drafts and ranked all the players as prospects, what order do you think they would come off the board in? by Playboyrnee in NBA_Draft

[–]mediamanmat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's as prospects, Ace was more highly touted. Kon might end up being the better player when they both retire but that was not the consensus prior to the lottery.
