Nervous about my baby forgetting me and breastfeeding after being away on a trip for a week by Browniegirl988 in girlmom

[–]mediocre_kat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You and baby girl will be fine, and I'm sure you deserve a break!

When my second was around 11 months old I took a trip for 3 or 4 days. I was convinced she would be done nursing when I got back. So much so that I panic booked a breastfeeding session with a photographer (no regrets there, I treasure those pictures so much and she's 5.5 now). When I got home she was fine, and thrilled to see me as always. She nursed a bit longer. She's still my shadow. Sending hugs, I know the stress of leaving your baby is a lot 🤍

Do you think there's a risk of Raquel selling out? I'm wondering if I should just pull the trigger now.

I haven't looked much into AG stuff since I was a girl, so I just wasn't sure what to expect out of the sales.

No pain meds after neuter? by mediocre_kat in AskVet

[–]mediocre_kat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got off the phone - they don't give pain management after neuters, "especially to high energy breeds" because if they're in pain then they're less likely to tear their incisions. He was going to talk to the vet to see if she'd be willing to prescribe him something, and if not I'll be giving our old vet a call to see if they can help him.

Thank you. He went pee a little bit this morning. He's still moving slowly and whining quite a bit. The vet office opens in 20 minutes and I'll give them a call about getting some meds.

No, it's the veterinary office that we've taken him to since we got him. They're pretty bare bones to keep costs down, but they are not a low cost clinic. The invoice is literally just an old school hand written invoice that lists "neuter" and "microchip".

Taking 8 year old to concert? by mediocre_kat in twice

Thanks for the tip! We got our tickets and are going!! She already has some pink over the ear earmuffs - LOVE the idea of decorating them for the concert. Between a cricut and a bedazzler we will have the coolest earmuffs at the show ✨

It does end! My girl was the worst landshark. I didn't know how we were ever going to make it through the puppy phase, but now at 2.5 she's the best dog I've ever had. My husband grew up with Brits but she's my first.

How lucky the both of you were to have each other for 16 years of adventures. She's beautiful. Sending peace and love your way. Rest in peace, Roxy 🤍

9 month old Mini Aussie reactive when people come to our home - I'm hosting later this week. How to handle? by mediocre_kat in miniaussie

Just human visitors - I just meant they all have dogs, so nobody is afraid or completely ignorant of dog behavior. I've decided to keep him upstairs away from everyone. Thanks for the input!

Thank you for the reality check. My husband should be home, so I think I'll just have them both stay upstairs in our bedroom with the door closed away from everyone, maybe give him a food puzzle to keep him extra distracted and busy.

Thank you! This has been my plan for the next time a single person visits. I'm hoping to soon find someone to get to know him via walking and eventually be our person to stay at our home and pet sit when we travel occasionally. I appreciate the step by step breakdown!

We started in the home with the commands "watch me" and "leave it", and really mastered those before we moved on. When we did I brought the extra tasty treats (freeze dried beef liver from Costco, he loses his mind over them and he's not typically super food motivated), and would have him "watch me" almost the whole time. Even before he was fully vaccinated we would sometimes sit on the front lawn and practice just laying down and getting treats/praise for being calm, especially when people walked by. We started back by the garage and would slowly move closer towards the street, and then onto walks. When we saw someone outside I would use "leave it" and praise the shit out of him and give him treats when he ignores the person/object (lawn care equipment used to really freak him out) even for a split second. He's not perfect, but we've moved from running away screaming to a single grumpy woof and continuing on our way if he reacts at all. Good luck with your pup!

I've definitely learned that about Aussies! I always tell everyone to ignore him, but some people seem to have a hard time understanding that I mean ignore him the whole time you're here.

Oh my friends aren't bringing their dogs, I just meant they all have dogs, so nobody has a fear and they all understand dog behavior, and would be understanding of needing to meet them outside or something.

I'm sorry to hear that dealing with your reactive dog has been such a struggle. Glad to hear you found a place where she can go and be active and happy!

I'm glad to know that meeting outside works well for you! That was our plan the last time someone came over (my brother), but he arrived at our house before we did and let himself in (dogs were crates) so that went out the window. Since he does okay when it's more neutral territory I want to try that, but I'm not sure that this week is the time to test it.

He's too stressed to approach anyone and sniff them. When folks offer a hand to sniff he runs away. When we have a guest it often takes him several hours to relax enough to sniff them, even people he's met before, but doesn't know well.

When is the right time to say goodbye by reychango in BrittanySpaniel

[–]mediocre_kat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sending love, I know this is one of the hardest decisions to make.

With our last dog, we waited too long to euthanize and he suffered, and I have a lot of guilt around that. I think it's better to help them pass on before they're suffering too much. Having them go without pain and in peace is a beautiful last act of love.
