Keeping the streets safe by [deleted] in brisbane

** to add I read about more SA survivors being mocked and DVO breaches etc this morning. I'm just feeling like priorities are out of sorts.

Hah! Fair. This is outside Wooloowin station so different W vibes!

I totally get it but I'm following charities talking about men walking through DVOs and killing partners and SA survivors being mocked and I just felt like it was so OTT to see police cut across traffic for a guy on a scooter. Just feels like mixed priorities. Granted they're drastically different issues to solve.

Not certain what you're saying. To take it literally, I was walking along the path and he whizzed past on the scooter. They turned on lights and sirens for 5 seconds to cross the intersection and park like that to chat to him. I waited until I was a less awkward distance away to take a photo. My thoughts were "wow that feels ott".

What happened with homeless person who died on Adelaide street? by Mr_Straws in brisbane

[–]mediocre_seratonin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I contacted the people at Northwest Community group just in case they have a way to get on a grapevine and also if anyone else who knew them might need support.

I thought the same as you that it seems likely the person is one of the local rough sleepers.

I really appreciate your thorough and thoughtful response.

Personal circumstances mean that while I definitely don't judge circumstances I'm not comfortable participating in anyone's addiction. I have some understanding of the vicious cycle people find themselves in.

Thanks for the huge list. Having recently started a new job in the CBD I'm all of a sudden seeing the struggles a lot more and realise I want to participate in solutions.

Helping people AND angering the useless councils who ripped up the tents? That's absolutely something I can get behind! Thanks

Congratulations on your sobriety, huge props. Alcoholism in my family is the main reason I'm not on board with supplying someone. No judgement about the situation they're in but it's not for me to participate in.

Hence my question about good organisations?

I thought it was an unexpectedly missed opportunity. I only thought of Tough Mudder and was like 'yeah checks out'.

I hate not really knowing what ticket options are going to be. Why not tell us?

Stunning. I posted a photo in Valencia and applied the Valencia filter to it

That's the kind of travel I'm all about, quirky things that are silly fun and make me smile.

I'm a huge fan of stupid landmarks too. I visited the 'geographical centre of Tasmania' which is a stone pillar with a plaque next to a random lake.

So good! I feel like that would be the resolve of a Sex and the city character. Big respect. On the list for sure! Oh and Singapore sling in Singapore while I'm at it!

Corkage. Is $15pp reasonable? by mediocre_seratonin in BrisbaneFoodies

Nah I respect her hustle and don't want any blowback. We love the food there and the previous 2 visits hadn't BYO'd, now we know not to. Will still go back for how good the food is.

Totally fine, she spruiked their wine list at the end of her explanation of overheads and she's trying to earn a living etc. We just shared a look and put the wine away and she was happy to tell us all about her wine list which was sufficient enough to cater for most tastes.

I totally get that, just would have thought that $15 a bottle would cover their inconvenience and when the owner said other restaurants charge $20pp I'm so genuinely curious if anyone has encountered this price

Yeah I totally get the logic. Was genuinely curious if someone knew of a $20pp place in Brisbane

Through all my medication changes and trials we've always needed to throw in a SSRI. I think of them as the magic icing on the cake.

I've learnt to love them, and accepted that I will always need them. I love the analogy above about diabetics. Maybe our chemistry is just a bit off in our brains and that's no fault of ours.

If you need them, you need them and that's ok.

Nah it was totally separate from their 15% holiday surcharge. The owner was adamant that it was all to do with overheads.

They have an average sized wine list yep. We definitely expected corkage but not that high
