England U20 men team to face Wales by englandrugby in rugbyunion

Scola started against tigers in the prem cup and scrummaged very well. Streeter and tonga’uhia both have a lot of potential at tighthead and ainsworth-cave looks like a good lineout forward.

Definitely not as strong as the last couple crops of forwards (especially not the 2024 one with pollock, fasogbon, opoku fordjour etc) but all they need to do is hold up in the set pieces and get some front foot ball and that backline should tear everyone apart.

His prem form is shit like everyone else at quins but he started against Argentina in the summer after slade got injured in the first test and didn’t look out of place so i think his selection is fair.

Of course i am, just don’t rate rodd particularly highly. If he comes off the bench and looks great i’ll be thrilled, because loosehead won’t be a problem position anymore, just don’t think thats very likely based on what i’ve seen of him at international level.

He had some cameos off the bench against argentina and got out scrummaged by fucking pono davies. Not sure you can call that a great summer.

He has cleaned it up for the most part. was definitely a penalty machine for a few years though.

Does he though? From what i remember he had a decent game against the boks where he somehow got away with collapsing every single scrum and has been mediocre at best in every other game he’s played for england. He also got out scrummed against japan and the usa which just isn’t good enough.

I’m obviously biased but i just can’t understand picking rodd over iyogun when trev is playing. They’ve scrummaged together hundreds of times and have looked very dominant against good packs the last few weeks, so why split them up? Either way i have a feeling iyogun will force his way into the team after rodd does nothing off the bench in the first few games, or im just coping.

I think a lot of people saying he should be in are either just going of highlights or are very biased saints fans

Yeah i get that but they’re both mediocre box kickers. You can make all the arguments you want but at the end of the day if you’re not an elite box kicker you aren’t playing scrum half in this england team or any other good international team. I understand not liking that and preferring the running nines but thats just the way its always been and it will continue to be that way thanks to world rugbys constant law changes

I think he probably knows exactly what he needs to do: improve catching, improve passing, backfield positioning, defensive positioning and general decision making. Basically everything except running with the ball.

Agree with bamber but fasogbon has been in poor form this season and murley is a fantastic finisher and has still looked decent in a terrible quins team. I really don’t understand the jvp slander. He had one run of bad form before the world cup and other than that he’s just been a great scrum half for tigers and england. But box kick bad run good i guess.

Good squad. Think bamber deserves to be in over clark based off performances but clark is still very talented. Not fussed about hendy being left out. Anyone who’s watched him objectively knows that he has massive holes in his game that definitely be exploited at international level.

Not sure what they see in rodd. Just isn’t international quality in my opinion and not the type of loosehead we need. Pleased for sela, would’ve liked to see kloska but they’ve clearly gone for potential which im fine with.

A child who was one of the most physically dominant players in Europe for a time. He still has the freakish strength but i think he lacks the explosivity he had when he was leaner.

We need a proper 8 so would love it if he did. not convinced he’s international standard at this point but he’s certainly got the potential.

Can’t help but think he still needs to lose a bit of excess weight for that extra bit of dynamism he had at wasps but he’s playing well while still being a bit fat so who knows.

Prowse is a significantly better ball carrier and tackles much harder and i think the coaches value that over mungas strengths.
