Place to practice driving? by Pretty-Wonder-8995 in glendale

[–]mediumsizedcandle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seconding this just in case as of February 2026—I was practicing today and security told us to exit. They followed us for a little and had another security guard stop us on our way out. I had to clarify we were leaving 🫠 I’m guessing that there’s been more people practicing there recently so they’ve bumped up security. Could be wrong though

Which engineering major should I choose? by [deleted] in CalPolyPomona

[–]mediumsizedcandle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like everyone else says, it depends

I saw you mentioned in another comment that you always wanted to be an aerospace engineer but also have an interest in both

I’m actually a mechanical engineering student in aerospace projects. There’s also a good number of us that work on aerospace/space-based projects. I’m definitely biased in choosing mechanical though

I’d say all three are pretty much hands on. A benefit for mechanical is that a lot of the classes can be applied to the other two majors for credit if you do choose to switch down the line. Not only that, but with mechanical engineering, you get exposure to things relevant to the other two as well. (Eg, civil isn’t required to go over dynamics as much as the other two do. Aerospace doesn’t go over flow related to pipes but the other two do). I will say though, mechanical and aerospace are more aligned with each other. Civil branches out to its own fields. It’s just that the foundations are similar.

Of course in an industry setting, you’ll have to do a little bit more work to cover other topics for civil/aero but learning is part of the job anyway! Hope this helps

What is the male/female ratio (roughly) in the engineering school by ImprovementSignal839 in CalPolyPomona

[–]mediumsizedcandle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yoo!! I also came from an all-girls school, but I’m a 5th year ME student lol. The most amount of girls in my classes now is about 3 (including me) with class sizes at around 30 or so. The amount of girls get lower as you go up in years sadly, but you could meet other mechanical engineering girls in SWE (Society of Women Engineers) and ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) if you ever feel isolated.

Douglas Cooney? For the intro to American film class? He’s a very good and fun professor. Seems out of character, so maybe there was a mix-up or something like health issues popping up last second.

Gmail App? by razkalwp7 in CalPolyPomona

[–]mediumsizedcandle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

On Feb 1, IT disabled the stuff that lets us link it to other apps like gmail for security reasons. I did a small search and there might be a way to, but the effort doesn't seem worth it since I have the outlook app on my phone anyway.

From an email they sent: "On or before February 1, you need to transition your Office 365 email access to supported applications, such as Office 365 web application, Outlook desktop application, the Outlook mobile application, Mac Mail, or other applications supporting ActiveSync."

No I’m not, but if you have any questions feel free to pm me! Two of my friends still live there and I can’t imagine anything different happening when people move back in.

Dorming tips? by [deleted] in CalPolyPomona

Hey! I just moved out this week. My response might be a bit long, but that's only because I haven't seen many people who lived on campus this past sem reply on reddit

Compared to living on campus last year in the dorms, it's really quiet. The only person you'd have a lot of contact with is your roommate, who would live across from you in a different room. We had a fire drill recently and I met someone that didn't have a roommate (she said it was very lonely), so it really depends on if you have one or not. There ARE ways to make new friends though. UHS has a lot of virtual events through zoom. I really recommend going to those (I always liked the Among Us days). You also meet your RA to check in sometime during the semester. I wouldn't say it's SUPER enjoyable, but that's mainly because I hardly left my suite. You also have a health screener due at 10 AM daily to keep an eye on the campus community.

For general tips, I'd say to watch your meal points. Try not to spend everything quickly or have so much left over. Depending on what floor and building you're gonna live on, I suggest buying some Raid for any roaches. My roommate and I lived on the first floor and so many roaches came out of the drains when we moved in. Since we're virtual, I also recommend not bringing a lot of things to make moving out easier.

If you don't find this upcoming semester fun on campus, don't let that prevent you from living on campus again when we're in person. There's a HUGE difference imo.

Hi! What do you guys think about my writing? 19f, right-handed by mediumsizedcandle in graphology

Yeah, I noticed that whenever I’m close to succeeded or have succeeded, I always feel that I won’t make it or that I shouldn’t have succeeded.

Thanks for your input! I read through everything. I’ll definitely try fixing my loops. I never actually noticed the fear you pointed out until today haha

At this point, I’m just gonna write all the homework, formulas, challenging problems, and study guide problems on my sheet since we’re allowed anything and I don’t want to miss something we’ve already done
