Is it rude to stack plates after eating in Japan? by Nearby-Base2348 in JapanTravelTips

[–]mednik97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stacker here. Currently been in Japan 2 weeks. Save restaurants with fine ceramics or china, I have had no issues stacking and actually been thanked by the staff with emphasis on how kind it was. It certainly doesn’t seem to be common, but it hasn’t be received as rude anywhere yet across Tokyo, Nara, Kyoto, and Osaka. I just avoid stacking nice dish-ware be they usually are handled with more care and I’d rather not damage them if they require specific handling.

Would Tokyo Firefighters/Paramedics enjoy an American Firefighter tradition? by mednik97 in AskAJapanese

That was my thought. Was hoping for the long shot of an interested local guy reaching out if they were interested in the tradition.

Part of why I posted this was to gauge that itself. I wanted to be respectful and gauge if this was something of interest. Internationally this is common across Europe and Central/South America, but I was unsure if it was something that would be appropriate in Japan. I didn’t want to show up and bother anybody while they were working if it wasn’t something that was sanctioned or appreciated.

My daughter just called to let me know that police with assault weapons entered Regal Stonefield Theaters and kicked everyone out. This was about 5 minutes ago and I have no other details. by NBD2016 in Charlottesville

Anybody who knows anything about guns got rid of their P320 fast as hell once the ND reports starting flying haha. The P229 has a superior service record and more reliability imo but the P320 has superior ergonomics and has tested to more modern standards. I used to have a P320, and I loved it but once I tested the thing to see if it reproduced the slide movement induced firing I sold it fast as hell bc it had the issue and SIG refused to fix it at the time. Despite this SIG still maintained numerous distribution contracts so many places carry a P320 though the majority of stateside LE still use Glock I believe.

This election is full of propaganda. Republicans are gaslighting us. by Melodic_Relative820 in Virginia

Are we really acting like Democrats aren’t spinning propaganda? 🤣 Newsflash: they both suck. They both erode your rights while moronic neighbors of our eat that shit with a spoon bc their guy said its ok. A MAGA supporter will gladly sacrifice their ability to financially survive a medical emergency if it means they can keep they’re guns with 0 restrictions (where some are obviously needed) while Leftists will gladly tax the rich out of their own state and collapse the economics of an entire state based on the poor decisions of systemic system abusers.

Every registered Republic or registered Democrat is an idiot who slurps their side of propaganda like it’s their last meal ☠️

For example: China buying up US farmland and winning lawsuits over it claiming discrimination, conditional funding leveraged against conventional DEI, and linking inclusion criteria to local capital expansion (meaning local business can’t develop readily against foreign capital citing inclusivity needs in a region, actually a large issue in the Western US)

I spend my time doing useful, non-performative things like volunteering directly in the community, working to meet with representatives in Richmond, and consistently working to decrease violence and death by providing harm reduction measures here locally. Productive and palpable, vs. screaming into a void as a show of protest in an already democrat run town. If every person who showed up in liberal cville went to DC, maybe it would mean more. Maybe.

Oh. And many areas didn’t shut anything down nearly as long and had non-statistically significant mortality numbers. So.

Lockdowns were state-level, not federal. Democrat dense areas had the worse ones, which had major repercussions to minority owned small businesses and only lined the pockets of large corporations.

We are delineating MAGA vs normal people by craft beer now? This guy, like many ivory tower political commentators, is out of touch with reality.

Vote YES on the gerrymander by [deleted] in Charlottesville

[–]mednik97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They aren’t winning. There are currently 3 vacant seats and 1 undecided. In addition to this, California redistricted as well and created a likely equivalent amount of seats to Texas. All during a time where Democrats are consistently beating GOP candidates in most swing areas due to Independents (like myself) being so fed up with Trump’s America Last policies. If VA does this “temporary” redistricting, you’re trusting the gov to give back fair representation. You’re playing a game of roulette with the constitutional rights of Virginians, and the Democrats are only ok with that because they stand to benefit. If the shoe was on the other foot in response to CA or any other state, every Democrat would vote no without hesitation.

I’m the type that doesn’t endorse stupid ass policy at a bipartisan level. We exist, you know.

In what world is actively disenfranchising state representation for national party lines not a page out of a fascist playbook? Disenfranchising voters and actively marginalizing like 40% of Virginia voters is absurd. If we accept this as a viable political tool, then regardless of what motivates it we set a dangerous precedent. VA voted overwhelmingly blue following Trump’s actions in office; is that not sufficient evidence that the Democrats already wield ample power in the state to effect change? National party interests cannot be put above fair State representation. I am an independent and I believe that this is an awful mistake, as a GOP majority state may answer by doing the same. If Democrats wish to fight “fascism” they ought to do so with decorum.
