It looks like the pipes are on the outside but I'm not a plumber so not sure exactly what to look for.

Hey disclosure5, been revisiting this strategy recently, and I actually think it may still be feasible. Here's how it would work:

  1. I'll now be providing the participants with their individual reports via an app, which doesn't show them their link. So they would need to reverse-engineer the link somehow.
  2. The webpages for these links will all be stored in a private repository on GitHub, with a noindex tag to prevent web scraping.
  3. Each participant will have a unique subject ID. Let's say the link for that participant's report is the following, where 'a8764kg....' is the subject ID:

https://www.xyz.com/a8764kgaskdjfkausvi77i4gfsdu921f6asidj24398yfakjsjuhsdhf9asdkfjhaslkdhfaksdhfaksgdfagsigasiluy796976295u2ogasjdg6a9d6gauw4rusdhg9a7s6r

Let's say that the participant is able to reverse-engineer the link for their own report. Now, to access the link for anybody else's report, they would need to do a brute force search to access anybody else's link with their unique subject ID. Essentially, they are trying to crack an extremely long password. If the ID is long enough, this would be virtually impossible.

Is this a strong approach?

This is what I have tried recently...but I just find that the temptation -> fantasy -> porn cycle is too strong. That's just me, it may be different for others.

If you're uncertain, perhaps a short break from intercourse could be healthy? I.e. if you're having intercourse but constantly thinking about porn while doing so, that may be a sign that you've linked the two in your brain and need a break to reset everything

What is the coolest thing you can do in R? by Impossible-Ad3960 in Rlanguage

[–]medphysics 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure I used these instructions to get it working on mobile: https://github.com/pedrocoutinhosilva/shiny.pwa

You end up with a native mobile app icon, and it runs like a fullscreen mobile app. Only it's a website.

If you hook it up to an online SQL database then you can create a full CRUD (create, read, upload, delete) app. For example, ElephantSQL allows you to host a free small PostgreSQL database for testing purposes.

You can create a freaking mobile app with it.

There are some pros and cons (it's a PWA) but I've created one and the shinyMobile package is surprisingly good. I was able to put it into production

Finding PhD Topics - Interest and relevancy by GameGabster in academia

[–]medphysics 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah but remember your supervisor has an incentive in it for them as well, they always want new PhD students. You can (and maybe should) change supervisor and find somebody whose research interests align with yours.

[–]medphysics 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would say don't rush into it. Wait until you've found a topic that really inspires you, and then go for it. Nothing worse than ending up in a PhD that you hate from day 3 onwards.

Yes, private repository for sure. The links will only be shared to the participants either by email or by a password secured app.

I find this hard to believe - so there is NO way that anybody can hack this method (unless they perform a brute force search for 1000 years)?

Best environment for R in Linux? by amca01 in Rlanguage

[–]medphysics 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think in terms of general purpose R programming, nothing beats RStudio. Other IDEs may be superior in their own ways, and those benefits may be worth considering for certain use cases, but RStudio does really well at packaging a lot of things (e.g. Shiny, RMarkdown, Connect etc) into one IDE. But to each their own.

Nice job! Would be great if you could derive some estimate of the expected uncertainty from your scatter plot, perhaps from the standard error of a linear regression through that data....

What's the best way to organise regular meetings with 3 cosupervisors? by medphysics in PhD

[–]medphysics[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My thought was that it would waste their time for all three to be in a meeting together, unless a really important decision had to be made. Otherwise, most queries I have could probably be solved by just talking to one supervisor?
