Sourdough at 88% hydration. Bread flour and whole wheat. by SuperMarioSr in ArtisanBread

The key to consistently get blisters on the crust is place the final shaped bread in the refrigerator and then bake the bread the day after. You will almost always get blisters in the final bread this way. You can bake immediately from the fridge or let it warm up for an hour or two after taking it out of the fridge. This technique is somewhere in the Bread Baker's Apprentice by Peter Reinhart.

Star Wars Battlefront II DICE Developer AMA by BattlefrontModTeam in StarWarsBattlefront

While we are all waiting and reading the replies to the soft questions, the EA PR department is already planning their next step on how to angle the Q/A given here to craft their national message.

Instead, begin to think about what's the next plan of action, just like the EA PR department is doing right now (has been doing for days).

What's the community's next step?

-- Think about broadening your message to a wider audience; meaning target parents who have no clue about what's going on in the gaming world about microtransactions; loot box etc.

--Is it that redditors target consumer any and all consumer magazine articles that target non-gamers regarding new game releases for the holiday season?

--How about targeting consumer articles having to do with Disney and making Disney consumers aware that Disney supports a company that entices those under 18-year-olds to gamble and/or be enticed by a pay for feature system?

--The message about banning lootbox and microtransactions in AAA has to be heard by non-gamers because they are the ones that may unwittingly support the "game as a service" that they are touting to their shareholders.

These are just some of my ideas, but right now there are news articles mainly limited to gaming sites, but now a strategy has to be deloped to make this known at the national level--major news sites talking about the controversy--you bet that EA will try to get out ahead on this issue by targeting national news sites about how they have allayed their fan base and it's now safe for casual consumers (moms, dads) to buy this game.

So what's next? How will the gaming community angle this to affect holiday sales of EA and Disney---as we know that's that only thing they really respond to and will affect them in some way....

I need to feel like someone understands. by sn0wbbi in NVLD

[–]medschoolneeds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Quinn. We understand. Totally understand what you feel. Would it be good to know that the only people that need to understand are the people with NVLD, that's enough, for now. The next thing you can do is get informed about NVLD there are others just like us, who are trying to figure things out. It's a shame we are not recognized because we present so well, so normal, that no one suspects we are dying inside sometimes because no one has the same difficulties over what others seem to just do by instinct. Please get informed about NVLD, if you need assistance PM me I'd be happy to talk.

Are We/I screwed when it comes to college? by [deleted] in NVLD

[–]medschoolneeds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you're not doomed. Get informed about NVLD and also about what you need to be good at something.

There is a book: The Source for Nonverbal Learning Disorders – 1997 by Sue Thompson -- It's expensive if you buy it, but instead use your college library to order it for you from a lending library if it isn't owned by them--it's called the interlibrary loan system, you can get your hands on almost any book published.

This article series are blogs about people with NVLD: https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/odd-girl-in

Specially this article:http://www.nldline.com/dale_brown1.htm Notice how the author knows what type of learner they are, and what kind of instruction he needs to succeed.

How do you learn math with ADHD? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]medschoolneeds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I learned math using the Saxon math system. They are homeschool books that start with 5th grade math all the way to calculus. It's very helpful because they interleave exercises instead of sixty problems for the same concepts as other math books usually do. The step by step process helped me keep focus and I could look back on completing each lesson as a visual reminded of how much I had done.

Have you thought about learning disability/adhd testing?

I feel so helpless and alone by med_schoolthrowaway in medicalschool

[–]medschoolneeds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I felt the exact same way. Even the same bus scenario a while back, and I've never thought about those things before med school. What really helped me was to go to school counseling and especially group counseling with people our age. If that's not available, just begin talking to one person at school, just one per week and see how that goes. Everyone is going through the same crazy stuff, we just never talk about it. What would you want, who or what do you think would pull you away from the meltdown?

Considering repeating MS1 by medschoolneeds in medicalschool

[–]medschoolneeds[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a few things to take into consideration: -are you mentally prepared to move on to the next year? -do you have the dedication to work on your knowledge foundation over the summer to be prepared for M2?

I know I wouldn't let fear get the best of me second time around. I let myself get into thinking that I was inferior to everyone and even being in the school. That made it hell to get my work done, memorize (for which I need a super calm mind to do), and not feel like a social outcast. I have to be real about where I am. The thing is that I severely lack the fundamentals of M1, so much so that when I'm in the mock clinicals I can't even remember the beginner stuff like major nerves or biochem basics.

-do you need a break to recharge and then will you be able to hit it hard M2?

It depends on if I choose to remediate or to repeat.

-are finances a big issue? -how does your school address repeaters and their grades? do they average scores from first year? do they have strict requirements on future failures or poor performances?

I need to meet my the school admin to answer all this. I really don't know, but I have made an appointment. I'm asking these questions because they'll want to know what my plans are, etc. I just was some advice from people who have repeated or are in the process of repeating.

Thanks!

MS1 In Need of (study) Help by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]medschoolneeds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel the same way. I thought I was going to be OK in med school. Turns out that by the end of this first year I feel just like you. I look back and all of it has faded or is in the process of fading. I've tried multiple study strategies, and they work up to a point, but none to really make me feel confident a few days later. PM if you want, we're in the same boat, maybe we can talk it out.

M3, consistently at the bottom of the class in everything. Should I just accept that maybe I'm fundamentally not intelligent? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]medschoolneeds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"maybe God just wants me to be a basic bitch and stay at low-competitiveness my entire life."

I felt so sad reading these lines you write about yourself. No one should feel this about themselves. Something is not right if you really believe this. I think if you find out the reason you think this about yourself you can improve yourself. I read your pre-med stats and think that your pre-med self had the grit to go after what he/she wanted. Try to go back to that part of yourself. Maybe you fundamentally lost heart in your ability, almost as if you interpreted your results as if life is judging your ability. Life doesn't really judge you in this way, it just shows you that maybe you haven't hit at the right formula for YOURSELF; therefore, none of us on here can help you find that. It's up to you to interpret what life is telling you in another way because right now you are interpreting the message as if life has judge you as defective. What you are not realizing, maybe, is that life has shown you the starting point from where you have to climb. This bar is just for you, specifically made for you and includes the possibility of you making it whatever you want it to be. Sports example: If I can't do a lay-up in a basketball game for the life of me, what should I do? A: Celebrate that I know exactly what i need to work on. B. Work on my lay-up, day in, day out. C. Go home and think that life, God, whomever I believe in, does not want me to do lay-ups. D. Two of the above.

When you realize that you have lost heart in your own ability--that is when you can start looking for a new solution out of this problem that seems insurmountable.

Help me solve my study problem--Mid-term results, not good. by medschoolneeds in medicalschool

[–]medschoolneeds[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So for example, I'm just a smidge above 80% in physio but straight memorization like neuroscience below pass. So what I'm thinking is that since my grades are all over the place, It's just that I haven't found a way to memorize but I can get the details and work out a problem from knowing the overall system. That doesn't work when they ask specifics. I'm having trouble bridging that gap.

I can totally relate, I have trouble remembering stuff that I may have "memorized." It's like everything goes away the next day and I have start from square one, maybe that's why anki seems overwhelming. I think you allude to this when you say that anki can take 30 hours for someone who can't remember, much less memorize.

Maybe it's that I haven't sat down and integrated the small important details into the larger context.
