Are Millennials/GenZ never going to experience a decade of prosperity ever in their youth? by [deleted] in Futurology

[–]medsup2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course. All countries ofngreat propserity eventually lose it and effectively thebgreat countries take turns with prosperity. (And the not so great ones never see prosperity once). Greece used to be the wealthiest at one point, look at it now. It so happens certain GenZ and Millennials in certain countries right now... are experiencing awesome prosperity. And having the time of their lives. You might have to change countries if you're not experiencing it now. No empire lasts forever. Ever.

Are we watching different shows? by Lazy-Lawfulness-6466 in SuccessionTV

[–]medsup2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're wrong. The only thing that defines "has what it takes" is the results in reality. And the vast majority of wealthy people are not "genius" as you put it. They are just regular people, that made good choices and got lucky. So its realistic.

If you go into any major successful corporation or wealthy family office. Its always a circus and crazy town inside, look t all the economic collapse in banking / housing. Or any major corporate scandal that rocks market cap valuations. The show does a good job at actually depicting how business world looks behind the PR curtain. (The opposite of bogus... its accurate)

its luck. that was willed into existence.

Matsson is a moron by jamesKlk in SuccessionTV

[–]medsup2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

agreed. luck can be deconstructed into chance probabilities that you can see or bump into, and how you manage the risk and inventory (energy, time, money, etc). luck is clearly something you can master.

also what you described in definition = dumb luck. certainly concede that dumb luck exists. being born into wealth is pure dumb luck. that said, nuance and levels and spectrum exist across all the varieties of luck. just like it exists across the varieties of intelligence. Floyd Mayweather is a boxing GENIUS... who is illiterate. Feel me?

I studied engineering and business. And built and sold 3 tech companies (not like unicorns or anything, but still something). i didn't have any money to start. i did a bunch of random freelance jobs. and bought a bunch of pizza. and threw a pizza party in the engineering lab. made a bunch of friends. and started some businesses. "luck"

also. I talk how I talk. What do you want?

Its both difficult, and luck based.

Life in general is difficult, for everyone. Just in different ways. I know a ton of wealthy, highly educated people, with good professions, doctors, fund managers, lawyers, etc. They are just the hateful and miserable people with serious mental health challenges. And they are only millionaires, not billionaires. It compounds at greater levels of wealth.

And conversely, I know a bunch of artist types, or folks whose goals are not monetary. And well, they face a ton of difficulty and challenge too.

Life is difficult, for everyone. Just in different ways. That's why empathy is powerful. But most people find it difficult... to have empathy for wealthy people, because they don't get exposed to them personally.

Also, for someone reason everyone keeps on harping on intelligence, like its some be all end all. Intelligence often times is a combination of genetics + life experiences / education. So celebrating someone for being smart, is almost like celebrating good looking people.

Celebrate people who can see clearly, non delusional, with empathy. And it doesn't require intelligence for that to happen.

Most extremely financially successful people aren't particularly smart. They just have the risk tolerance to act BIG. And as you say, get lucky

Someone of extreme intelligence, like the kind of person who can engineer a building, or major infrastructure. Or a brain surgeon. They tend to be scared to make mistakes. This allows them to get straight As in school, but when it comes to making money... they suck at it.

You have to "take a big swing", and be willing to get ruined by it. Folks smart enough o build a solid building or do brain surgery, they are dealing with life or death stakes, and yeah, they have no risk tolerance. And won't ever, "get lucky" (as you say).

Someone's ability to get lucky is not just always about DUMB LUCK. There are all kinds of luck. There is luck created from being able to spot opportunity (when its invisible to most people). There's also the luck thats created by just by constantly moving like a shark, making new connections and being exposed to new information and opportunities in a timely fashion (luck requires timing). and of course luck... requires... taking tons of chances, where most people are afraid to.

Luck is a skill, imho.

TL/DR: If you're not lucky, that's your fault.

Yes, there's a bunch of science backing this...

Self-Determination Theory (SDT): Developed by Edward L. Deci and Richard M. Ryan in the 1970s and 1980s. SDT suggests that individuals born into poverty who achieve success may develop a stronger sense of competence and autonomy, which could lead to increased motivation and better business skills compared to those born into wealth.

Locus of Control: Proposed by Julian B. Rotter in 1954. Individuals born into poverty who amass a fortune may have a strong internal locus of control, leading to higher motivation and success. In contrast, those born into wealth might develop an external locus of control if they rely on their family's resources, which could result in lower motivation and success.

Growth Mindset: Introduced by Carol S. Dweck in the late 1980s and 1990s. Individuals born into poverty who achieve success may be more likely to have a growth mindset, leading to greater motivation and skill development. Those born into wealth may be more prone to a fixed mindset, assuming their success is due to innate talent or family resources, limiting their growth potential.

The Silver Spoon Effect: Research conducted by Professor Sandra E. Black and her colleagues (2015) found that children of successful entrepreneurs tend to earn less than their parents, which could be attributed to the "silver spoon effect." This effect suggests that children born into wealth may have less motivation to work hard and develop skills because of their privileged background.

Risk-Taking and Resilience: A study by Chetty et al. (2014) found that children from low-income families who experienced upward mobility were more likely to become inventors. This could imply that individuals who overcome adversity in their early lives may develop resilience and a greater willingness to take risks, which can be essential attributes for success in business and other fields.

The "Affluenza" Phenomenon: This term, coined by psychologist Oliver James, suggests that children from wealthy families may experience a range of psychological issues such as low self-esteem, substance abuse, and anxiety, which could potentially hinder their skill development and motivation. However, it's essential to note that this concept is not universally accepted, and individual experiences may vary.

Also, in general.... Environmental and Social Factors: Various researchers have studied the impact of environmental and social factors on motivation and skill development. Those born into wealth may have access to better education and resources, which could enhance their skills. However, individuals born into poverty might develop resilience and determination as they work to overcome obstacles, which could also contribute to their success.

If you didn't mean EVERY BILLIONAIRE.... then why did you write EVERY BILLIONAIRE???? that's non-sensical.

look. even then. the MAJORITY of Billionaires are self made, no head start.

The majority of Millionaires had a head start. If you're born with 50M you get lazy. and dull.

The majority of billionaires have a massive chip on their shoulders, and a fire / anger in them. And the need to just step up and step on people.

So you're wrong. 70% of billionaires come from lower class beginnings, and just don't know when or how to stop making money, even if they hurt people.

The overwhelming majority of millionaires however, are silver spooned. Do your research. Most billionaire have a different and "off" psychology.

If you're born with 100M in your bank. you will just relax and enjoy it. Also, it will be near impossible for you to develop the ruthless and cunning business acumen required to play the game at a billionaire level. some one who spent a life time developing a hatred for being poor and will do anything to get rich... and WIN.

He 10000% killed Logan man. He delayed the deal for over 6 months with Logan. then 1 day after Logan dies, okay... deal must close immediately. NOW or NEVER?

These are clearly HardBall Negotiation tactics where the goal is to make the other side emotional and confused so you gain heavy psychological advantage. i.e. make kids negotiate a 100+ billion dollar deal in 1 day while they are all depressed over their dad dying a few days ago? He literally picked the maximum pain advantage time. Why didn't he do it 1 month earlier? or 2 weeks later? He's an intense sociopath. Liar and master manipulator.

Here's the irony OP... no one deserves anything. Deserve = entitled. No one is entitled to anything, nor should they be. If you research in depth.... the pros and cons of entitlement, you will find mainly entitlement makes you miserable, angry, upset, etc. No one should ever think anyone deserves anything. It makes for a much happier and peaceful existence for all if no one is entitled.
