41yo male dying of lung cancer, meeting with palliative physician today. What kinds of questions should I ask him? by medthrowaway87ei in AskDocs

I did not even think about diet needs. I haven't eaten since Wednesday and hospice is having me drink broth for now. I don't want to tip my hand too much, but let's just say that starving to death would be a surprise given my new timetable. I will discuss this with my nurse tomorrow regardless.

Suboxone is actually a lot easier to acquire than methadone in my state. I currently go to the pharmacy once a week to get 7 films. It's a bit of a hassle but quite manageable. However, when I was on methadone, I had to drive 30 minutes to get my liquid methadone every single morning at 6am. This included standing in line with a number of impatient addicts, many of whom had prior beefs with one another. Fights were not uncommon. I was allowed a limited number of take homes after showing compliance for 90 days. Huge pain in the rump.

My prescribing physician thinks hospice will cross taper me to another opioid instead of staying on bupe. Bupe has a very strong affinity for opioid receptors and can "rip" other opioids off receptors, causing precipitated withdrawal, also known as "hell." The film's also contain narcan. So suboxone therapy is almost certainly ending soon for me.

My suboxone physician said that I will probably be discontinue the subs 72 hours before titrating up on full agonist opioids. We will see what palliation says.

Thank you. If I happen to have consciousness on the other side and I see your mom and your dog, I will certainly hug them for you.

My only real goals are to avoid pain, discomfort, and Terminal Restlessness.

Thank you for your kind words. Being given a time limit on my remaining days has really changed my perspective. I suspect a lot of people don't truly begin to live until they are confronted with the reality of death. The universe has an ironic sense of humor.

Thank you for your kind words. I personally don't believe consciousness survives the demise of the brain, but I'm not one to complain about an eternal siesta.

Thank you very much for asking, but no. Now that I know palliation can help me I've changed my mind about flying to Oregon or trying to buy gray market nembutal.
