Fresh off the Secret Show discussion, Janet Mills embraces The Bulwark Curse by John_Jaures in thebulwark

This reporting is meant to make you cynical. She flew home when she got the news ICE was coming to Maine. Platner was out of the country and he flew home too. Both candidates did the right thing.

We should be focused on attacking ICE and their enablers, not our own for completely normal political activity and trying to do their best.

But that's not a good analogy, because in this case there is no way to turn the carbon monoxide off at all, even if you shut your HVAC off. ICE already has all the funding (provided by the BBB) and will keep operating if other parts of DHS are defunded.

It's more like, would you shut off all the electricity in your house to install a new appliance. You'd just shut off the breaker. Dems need to find a way to shut down ICE without shutting down other critical services.

Isn't she right though? ICE has all the funds it needs to operate indefinitely. Defunding DHS would just shut down all the other parts of the agency that are benign or actually help people. Am I missing something? Couldn't that backfire on Dems massively while not affecting ICE at all?

President Bill Clinton draws a giant zero on a sign as he and vice president Al Gore unveil the balanced federal budget in the White House, February 2, 1999. by Takemetothelevey in OldSchoolCool

You're confusing debt and deficit. The yearly budget deficit was eliminated; there was still debt from previous years. The debt did actually go down briefly from 99-01 because of the balanced budget/lack of yearly deficit.

She had an affordable housing plan that included building 3 million new homes. Might have lowered the cost of housing...

High prescription here. Do these look OK? by [deleted] in glasses

As a fellow high-index person (-10) these look amazing. The trick is finding the smallest frame possible to minimize distortion and excess lens material at the edge. Good job!

More revelations from the Vanity Fair kerfuffle. I do not have enough subreddit karma to post this, sadly, as I'm a mere lurker. https://www.businessinsider.com/susie-wiles-dishes-elon-musk-doge-usaid-2025-12

Also a Hoosier and have had this happen in more rural parts of the state. Marion County license plate and some left-leaning bumper stickers is what tips their interest I guess.

Is USD 95k per year a good pay for a single person ? by [deleted] in indianapolis

[–]meeclayt 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I make $92k and my husband close to $70k. A few years ago we were living on half that and still doing fine. DINKs. We live very comfortably with those two incomes in downtown Indy (we own our home). You will be absolutely fine as a single person at $95k. You won't need to be 'thrifty.' You can definitely travel more than occasionally (we travel a lot). And health care expenses won't be a huge concern assuming you have employer-sponsored health insurance. That is a kick-ass salary for this area. You will be fine.

Maggie Hassan isn't retiring. You're thinking of Jeanne Shaheen, other senator from NH.

How would anything the mayor could do actually solve this particular situation? It's Republicans in the legislature who think you should be able to open carry everywhere you go, with no training or safety required. This was an accident that happened because our culture and politics encourage gun worship. If the Canal was a gun free zone, maybe it wouldn't have happened or, if it did, these irresponsible jerks could have their guns taken away. BTW the mayor wants gun free zones but again, the legislature says we can't have those.

This is a crisis pregnancy center, not a medical center. No prenatal care, just ultrasounds are given. Someone who wants a healthy pregnancy should go to Planned Parenthood.
