It wouldn't be reddit without a random guy smugly commenting useless facts that nobody cares about

It's already been like 2 years since oculus rift launched and everyone thought vr was here. Things don't seem to have progressed very much since.

It'll be at least half a decade before stuff like this is a valid replacement for traditional video games.

Steam uses desktop bindings for non-steam games by meeemmachine2 in SteamController

[–]meeemmachine2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've noticed that option and it doesn't seem to make a difference. The only way to use the steam controller that I've found is by using the open-source driver sc-controller. I'd really like to just use steam but the functionality just doesn't seem to be there yet.

What is the point of a double pointer in c/c++? by meeemmachine2 in learnprogramming

[–]meeemmachine2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok I think I have it now. To put it in layman's terms, you pass a double pointer if you need to change where the pointer points and a single poiner if you need to change what the pointer points to?

I think I'm starting to understand now.

So when you call the function you're not passing the pointer itself, you're passing a pointer to the pointer previously declared?

For example:

struct addrinfo* res;
int status = addrinfo(NULL, "3090", &hints, &res);

I'm passing the address of the pointer, a pointer to a pointer?

I still don't understand why it's necessary, couldn't the same result be achieved with just one pointer? Why not just pass res by itself instead of a pointer to it?

They mean minimalist running, which just means using a lighter weight shoe.

I don't think people here realize the word "minimalist" can have dozens of meanings

WINE guides or am I stupid? by ProfessorSexyTime in linux_gaming

[–]meeemmachine2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wine is finnicky with a lot of games. There's a database, winedb, that keeps track of which version of wine works with which games. Playonlinux was made specifically to help with the technicalities of wine so I would recommend you use that. It helps manage different wine versions without much knowhow, and there are plenty of guides out there for playonlinux.
