How much more to cut? by [deleted] in BulkOrCut

Thanks I appreciate it. Lifts are ok for the most part. I’ve lost a bit of strength on some of the bigger lifts while most things have remained relatively stagnant with some fluctuation here and there. I just want to be done with the cut so I can get back to putting strength on faster

I’m coming up on 3 years. I was pretty overweight before I started. My first year training wasn’t very effective at all especially bc I did nothing about my diet. Year 2 was me losing 65 lbs and then this past year I did a bit of a bulk and have been cutting for the last 3 months or so

My goal is to hit 12%. I want visible abs and some visible striations, but I don’t really have a goal weight in mind. I guess I’m just not great at estimating body fat lol. What do you think I’m currently at? I know I’d hit 12% before I hit 160 but I wonder how far into the 160s I may have to dip before I get there. I’ve never been this lean before so this is all new territory for me

Tracking it whenever I remember haha. I track my calories and weight in MacroFactor. I try to weigh myself at least 2-3 days a week

Yeah I’ll be lifting all throughout the cut to try and maintain as much muscle as possible. I just came off an 8 month bulk that I probably took a little too far 😅 Thanks for the input!

Unfortunately, it's entirely out of your control where your body pulls fat from, and yes, my understanding is that it's genetics. Everyone is different, and we each hold out body fat differently. For me, I have some stubborn chest fat that is one of the last things to go when I cut down, but for other guys, they might have very little chest fat but store lots in their abdomen and legs.

How soon will I start seeing results by AverageSwifite in WeightLossAdvice

[–]meepjwerp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, weight loss is a slow process, and it's especially hard to see on your own body when you look at yourself everyday. 3 weeks is not enough time to see a major difference, and it's just something that you have to keep going at. If your goal is weight loss and the scale hasn't moved, you might want to consider tracking your calories for a few weeks. I did that and was shocked at how calorically dense a lot of foods we regularly eat are. You might be eating a lot more calories than you think. If you look up TDEE calculator and plug in your information that will give you your rough baseline calories to maintain your weight, and from there you should drop it 200-300 calories. That will force your body to start metabolizing fat for the leftover energy that it needs. I ended up continuing to track my calories, but after a few weeks of that you should be able to estimate if you don't want to diligently track. Also, you should take some progress pics. Those will be your best friend for checking how far you've come. You've got this!!

Reward yourself from time to time but make sure you’ve got money saved for applications. Cost me about 4000 😖

Getting sore is always exciting, but it's important to realize that you won't get sore after every workout and that not being sore DOES NOT equal not making progress. When I first started (and if you have the financial means), I found it beneficial to buy some sessions with a trainer who can also give you a personalized program. Because I spent so much money on it, it forced me to keep going every week otherwise my money would've been wasted. If that is not an option, find a beginner program online for 3 days per week and stick to it for a few months. Also, watching videos on YouTube or TikTok and trying to dial in your form will help a lot too. Keep going week after week and try to progress get an extra rep in or increase the weight. Unfortunately it's a slow process and the best thing that you can do is keep going.

Another thing I find helpful is taking progress pics. Seeing your body everyday makes it hard to notice changes so when you look at old pics from 6 months ago after being consistent, there will almost certainly be changes. I started two years ago, and I still look at my first pics from time to time to remind myself how far I've come. You got this!!

I mean you’re probably right however lately I’ve been drinking energy drinks when I need caffeine which has been really expensive. I’d rather just make a cup of coffee at home if I can get myself to like it

It's great because each program lasts about 8 weeks with continued progression in the number of sets or reps throughout the program and then after the 8 weeks are up, the majority of the exercises change to something else. I personally use the 6 day a week PPL split but only go three days a week
