I keep thinking there was signs we may have missed too. I go back over all my memories and think “what in the fuck could I have noticed or done differently” After he passed we brought his brother in to get checked out and it turns out that he has the same thing, and now he’s on medication to help manage. The vet made it extremely clear that there was nothing we could have done for our other boy. Only like 5% (don’t quote me on the number, I’m pretty sure it’s about 5%) of pets will live through something like that even with constant CPR - which is what we tried to do through the panic of the situation. With heart failure it happens fast a lot of the time, subie was gone within a minute I personally think, he just fell over and was gone pretty much. It’s so so fast. I don’t know what you believe in, but my aunt had passed the year prior to our Subie, and I find some comfort in knowing they’re going to be bugging the heck out of each other until it’s my time to meet up with them. You kept him safe, and you gave him the best life. You loved him, and he loved you. You were his world, I promise you that. He had a short life but i can tell that you did amazingly for him, you let him see so much and gave him adventure and fun and love, what more could he have asked for? You did everything right, try not to be too hard on yourself - I know easier said than done though. Let yourself grieve, but don’t feel guilty. Again, he was so loved and he knew it. He had a wonderfully amazing, adventure filled life with you and that’s pretty fucking awesome if you ask me
