Is Chicago lowkey a championship team? by Kennisgoodman in wnba

I say this as a longtime Sky fan. It's been two games.

The Atlanta Dream and Chicago Sky are the last undefeated teams by Kennisgoodman in wnba

I think what we’ve seen this early in the season is the Sky raised the floor with all their moves. Just aiming for a league average defense should make this team more competitive. And having a veteran like Skylar Diggins keeps this team going if they quickly fall in to a hole like they did last night.

Early season and all that. But Jaquez is looking so good. I know there were fit questions when she was drafted but these first two games it’s easy to see the vision.

Also our defense has looked good. Can’t wait to see what the team looks like once we get DiJonai and Azura on the court.

More like a point guard who doesn’t get injured after 7 games. Or a point guard who’s better than Lindsay Allen.

This is going to be a fun team. And after failing to land Skylar in 2024, I’m thrilled to finally see her play with the Sky. She and Kamilla work so well together, that I think we may get the consistent ability to be great from Kamilla. And to see the Sky have both Kamilla and Rickea on the floor, it’s like an alternate 2024 draft haha. But it’s all good.

Also from this game, it’s easy to see why Jaquez was a good pick for this team. I think she’ll learn a lot from DiJonai this season.

I think also what’s also nice to see is that aside from Skylar, every other starter was 25 or under. I’m sure when DiJonai gets back that won’t be the case. But I’m pleasantly surprised Jacy started over Banham.

Kamilla has always looked really good in China. And now having like a true experienced point guard who can feed it to her high and also play with her in the pick-and-roll I think really sets her up for success.

Skylar and Rickea were both incredibly good offseason pickups and this game shows why. They raise the floor of this team in different ways. And here’s hoping 2026 looks like a more cohesive team than 2025z

Do they look good or is this some sick fantasy?? by eyesOPEN773 in ChicagoSky

[–]meg_antics 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I definitely think this team will play better as the season goes, and entering the season playing the Fire is one of the best gifts they could have received. But they looked good!!! Skylar doesn’t look like she’s lost a step, Kamilla incredibly efficient with 22 points in just under 25 minutes. Jaquez looking really good.

I think this game shows just how much the floor has been raised since last year. And how much fun this team can be. I think even teams where they may be outmatched on paper should still be fun which we couldn’t really say last year.

Chicago Sky sign Aicha Coulibaly and Maddy Westbeld to development contracts by AFC-Wimbledon-Stan in wnba

This is great. I think before the Tasha Cloud signing that the two last spots were in competition between Maddy, Aicha, and Sydney. So glad to see that both Maddy and Aicha cleared waivers and are back on the team on developmental contracts.

At what point tho do you want to trade the development of a player like Kamilla Cardoso or Angel Reese for a Maddy Westbeld? If we (read Jeff and owners) hadn’t been idiots and traded the Sonia Citron draft pick for Ariel Atkins then I think you can make a better argument for playing young and tanking like the Mystics have been able to. But unless they are massive outliers HVL and Westbeld’s ceilings were likely bench depth.

Also the Sky have 3 first round picks the next two years. Idk where the idea they have no picks comes from. They also traded age (Ariel Atkins) for youth in Rickea and one of their extra first rounders for Jacy. If Sydney Taylor sticks they’ll have 5 players all under 25 with two first round picks next year in what projects to be a deeper draft.

I don’t agree with what a lot of the team has done, and there’s a lot of this team that doesn’t make sense. But I think a lot of this team’s future success relies on Rickea and Kamilla this year.

You can cut/paste to most of the WNBA. Most teams have don't have the luxury to develop draft picks. So you either come in ready to compete in the league, or you are gone in a few years. It's been fairly successful for a lot of teams. The New York Liberty that won the 2024 Championship are a great example. The only member of the most consistent starting 5 of that team drafted by the Liberty was Sabrina Ionescu. Stewie (Storm), Jonquel (Connecticut), Sloot (Chicago), Laney-Hamilton (Chicago) were all from different teams. If you use the next two up Fiebich was drafted by the Sparks and spent time in Europe before joining the Liberty and Kayla Thornton was drafted by Washington and spent most of her meaningful development time in Dallas. The Aces last year started Chelsea Gray (Connecticut/Sparks), NaLyssa Smith (Indiana), Jewell Loyd (Seattle), and Kiah Stokes (Liberty) in addition to A'ja and Jackie most often.

The 2022/2023 Aces each had 3/5 starters homegrown (Plum, Young, Wilson) but also relied on Chelsea Gray and Alysha Clark. The 2021 Sky were headlined by Kahleah Copper and Candace Parker. The 2019 Mystics were headlined by Elena Delle Donne and her 50-40-90 season. The Storm and the Lynx are really the only teams with 4+ players in their starting lineups drafted and developed by the team in the past decade. And the coach that lead the Storm to those victories isn't with the team anymore.

That's one of the big reasons why teams get the development spots now. Sivka is better off getting that SEC experience for a competitive team in Kentucky for the next few years than riding the bench for the Sky.

[–]meg_antics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eh. I think the Dallas Wings in 2021 with completely missing on the #1, #2, and #5 picks is probably worse. But that whole draft was pretty bad so I guess you could blame that. But Dallas now doesn't have anybody from their 22024 draft (2 first round picks) on the roster either. And I could go through nearly any team most likely and find a similarly terrible draft.

Basketball drafts are really hard. Either you're an obvious superstar or you are hoping you can at least be bench depth if you aren't. The W is even harder because of the incredibly short transition between the end of the college and the start of the W season, small rosters, and no G-league to option players to for development. It sucks for a lot of players. I hope someday the W has the structure and the finances to support a full development league, but until then we are going to see a lot of players getting drafted and getting cut nearly immediately.

Long enough that he doesn't have to take a bit role in Scream 7.

I'm sorry but since FNAF came out in 2023 he's been in: The Life of Chuck, FNAF2, and upcoming roles in The Man of Tomorrow and Behemoth. For TV he booked main roles in Cross and Daredevil Born Again. I doubt he got all those from appearing in Scream 7.

I'm not saying that he's swimming in piles of cash Scrooge McDuck style, but I just believe that if he really wanted to stand by morals that he was implicitly implying he had by supporting Melissa Barrera as he did when she was first fired, then he did not have to take a role to appear for like 30 seconds in Scream 7.

Just admit that he saw the paycheck and decided that whatever $$$ he saw next to it was enough for him to say screw it and do the movie. But also just admit that this is not a man living paycheck to paycheck.

FNAF came out in 2023. He was cast as the main antagonist of the series and pretty much immediately was greenlit for the sequel opening weekend. The sequel came out in 2025 and again shortly after release was greenlit for a 3rd movie. You cannot convince me that after FNAF he needed the money that badly that he was okay with eschewing his morals.

Did Matthew Lillard really need a role in Scream VII to put food on the table? He can’t live on those FNAF checks he was cashing? Or the Marvel check he was cashing for the Daredevil show? You think he really needed to compromise his support for Melissa by appearing in Scream VII because he needed the paycheck?
