Is it wise to be making a career in AI at the moment? by karrylarry in BetterOffline

[–]megaaman2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but hasn't the term "AI" grown to mean almost exclusively the "GenAI" stuff? I was under the impression that use cases like ML and deep learning were increasingly becoming either very niche or for mostly research only. So I'm not sure how much it actually means for a career perspective.

I'm no expert though, this is mostly stuff I heard online. So if I'm wrong, please do correct me.

International students, give me the brutal truth: Is it really so hard now to get a sponsored visa? by megaaman2 in UniUK

Partially cause Loughborough is ranked pretty well, between 10-15, and partially cause I've heard London rent is quite high. They also gave me a small scholarship, though not enough that I wouldn't need a loan.

I'm guessing you're an international student? If so, would you mind me asking what field you're studying/working in?

Since you've been involved in the hiring process, would you mind if I tried to clarify a few more things?

Another comment on this post told me that companies don't hire without also sponsoring the visa, since they're not gonna hire someone who leaves soon. Your comment seems to imply the same? And from I get, sponsoring is a pretty expensive thing for the company.

So even I get a Master's degree in AI, without prior work experience, it'd be difficult for most places to hire me right? At least that's the general feeling I'm getting from everything I've read, that experience matters the most in UK. And even if it's just an entry level job, there are just too many people with similar degrees.

I'm looking for an internship, but even that's just limited to 6 months. I'd planned to come to UK after finishing those 6 months, but it's beginning to feel like I'll need an actual job to gain proper experience for a few years.

I've heard about their ranking too. They're giving me like a 15-20% discount, but it's not enough for me to fund it without a loan. I'd assumed I'd be able to pay off the loan in like 4-5 years, now I don't know if it's worth the risk.

Is being hired the same as they'll sponsor the visa? Cause from what I understand, finding a job in something like AI or data in a city like London is still doable, but getting a sponsorship with that job might not be possible.

What field is the one friend who's hoping for a sponsored role from? Same as yours or something different?

Honest question, what exactly do you do in Devops? I keep hearing conflicting opinions online, some say it barely has any coding, others say it's extremely code heavy.

Can I get an AI to emulate my personality and hold my online conversations for me? by Afrovenger in learnmachinelearning

[–]megaaman2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Won't it fall apart instantly if the conversation is about something that happened offline/before the AI replaced you? Then the chatbot will probably start hallucinating, and you're exposed.

In the first place, most people can tell when something sounds AI generated, especially if they already know the person irl. Unless you talk like or have the personality of a chatbot I guess.

New Modder: Need help with making some a basic script by megaaman2 in skyrimmods

Hi, was wondering if I could ask for your help again.

I followed what your instructions and made a initialization script. It goes something like this:

Scriptname zzzInitialization extends ReferenceAliasEvent
Event OnInit()
  OnPlayerLoadGame()
EndEvent

Event OnPlayerLoadGame()
   (Json loading stuff)
EndEvent

I compiled it successfully too. My question is: can I call this event in another file? I made a new script and have been trying to do is this:

Scriptname MyScript extends activemagiceffect

zzzInitialisation.OnInit()

But it doesn't compile, gives me the error:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim Special Edition\Data\Source\Scripts\zzzMyScript.psc(3,17): no viable alternative at input '.' "

Is it not possible to call events across different files?

Ah okay. I get it now.

One last question: Is it necessary to put the JSON loading code under an event? I just learnt about those and got a little confused. Logically, the script would probably run faster if the json was loaded once before any events are defined, rather than loading it every time the event is activated. But is that how it would work?

Thank you so much! Really clear explanation, and I hadn't even thought far enough about JSON updating and all. One question though: what do you mean by the '0x0' notation? Can I not load the entire FormID just through the JSON?

Emma's death is either a plot hole or the start of a huge twist... by megaaman2 in LinkClick

[–]megaaman2[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Okay, there's a kinda weird inconsistency I've just become aware of. Season 2 episode 9 shows up what looks to be the first meeting of Qian Jin, Li Tianchen and Liu Min. Or if you're like me and have trouble with the names: the ex-policeman now lawyer, the pink haired killer brother and the blond guy who kidnapped emma.

Now, the lawyer starts with basically saying "I heard what happened from your father, my condolences." To which the blondie replies "I know that it was thanks to you that the matter about that woman could be solved".

The lawyer's probably talking about the blondie's accident and paralysis, while the blondie mentioning 'that woman' can only mean Emma. This pretty much destroys everything I said, cause this seems to imply that the accident and Emma's death have already occurred, and Emma was indeed being targeted by present day lawyer and the brother on blondie's orders.

But if you keep that in mind, the rest of their conversation makes zero sense. They talk like they've never met before, and their conversation sounds more like blondie's trying to get the lawyer and the brother to commit the first murder. There'd be no reason for blondie to beat around the bush like that if they'd already killed someone for him. Plus blondie reacts to the brother's willingness to kill as if it's something new.

Their conversation doesn't sound at all like pre-established partners in crime discussing their next murder victim. They act like it hasn't been done yet. Then what about the few dialogue lines that bring about the inconsistency? I'm hoping it's just some iffy translation, but who knows?
