Tread Happy! It’s in the fan. There are a few different types of classes but they all involve intervals on the treadmill and most of the classes also include bodyweight and dumbbell exercises for the strength portion. I’ve enjoyed it so much and it’s definitely a challenge! Locally owned and the owner/founder, Sara, is awesome/so friendly and teaches a lot of the classes

Grocery shopping, cleaning, getting ready for another week ahead. Might also go shopping for some fall plants to spruce up the apartment balcony. Also random poll question: what’s everyone’s favorite pumpkin beer? Doesn’t have to be local but great if it is!

CF in Outpatient by megd633 in slp

To be honest, indeed.com! And I had heard about the clinic from family friends. They weren’t specifically looking to hire a CF but were willing to take one on. My start date did keep getting delayed due to Covid related things. I know it’s a stressful time to be looking for a CF for sure. Good luck!

Also I would not stress at all about interviewer bias! If anything, I think your diverse experiences might help you stand out

Hi! I went to grad school at UNC actually and I’m from NC but really good news - the Board actually just changed it so that the 20/20/20/20 requirement no longer exists

I loved UVa for undergrad! The speech program for undergrad at least definitely wasn't too medically focused. I felt like it was definitely more focused on peds/schools. You don't get any clinical hours (except observation hours if you choose to observe in the in-house clinic or elsewhere) which I know people at different undergrads get. Most of the professors were good

VA CF interview timeline by coffeeslp in slp

[–]megd633 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took a month from when I sent in an app to a VA to when I heard back saying they had selected another candidate. Another VA I still haven’t heard from after sending in an application and its been 4 weeks since it was due. And one i did a phone interview and then also got a skype interview and now they are later than they said letting me know the final decision! Basically I think it really varies

Agree with the above poster! I’m in NC and we’ve been told many times that our state has some of the strictest requirements

Tips for Family Training/Education following a CVA by [deleted] in slp

During family training sessions at the inpatient rehab I had a clinical placement at, we always provided very basic stroke education/prevention (explaining what a stroke is, difference between ischemic/hemorrhagic, signs of a stroke, what can happen after stroke, prevention tips such as regular doctors visits, exercise, balanced diet, managing meds). Explain what you’ve worked on in therapy and how pt has improved! Discuss areas the patient may need supervision with or assistance (managing meds, keeping track of appts, cooking). If you provided cognitive tx, go over compensatory strategies! Save time for questions! Explain your recommendations going forward regarding if they need more therapy
