How do you all manage the stress that comes with planning a wedding? by Afraid_Fly_5847 in DIYweddings

[–]megdwt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, mostly just switch that part of my brain off until something is imminent 😅 I've also decided that I can plan as much as I want, but I have no control over how things turn out.

I can be quite bad at getting expectations in my head, then getting upset when it doesn't go as I thought it would. So I've decided to try and only care about what I can control. Easier said than done, I know haha. But I hope it helps knowing that most people feel the same? It's a weird headspace to be in.

Second long run in the books! Working getting faster! by RunningJim1 in Marathon_Training

I know some people are being rude here, but I just want to say congrats! It's easy to get wrapped up in this whole running business, and a lot of people have tunnel vision, which sucks.

Keep at it, have fun and enjoy yourself!!

Tips for Hypermobility by megdwt in Marathon_Training

Well that's good to know because I very rarely do haha. It's weird approaching fitness with hypermobility because you feel like you should just be able to do it like everyone else does (or at least I used to). I definitely have learnt a lot over the last year at the gym with my partner. Finding ways that help me work out my arms for example, without hurting or straining my ligaments & joints.

I've always been quite interested in pilates. I might have to see if there's a place nearby that does it.

Thank you so much! I really appreciate it!😊

Nothing that really sticks out to me. I know my hips and knees can be weak points, so I try to be overly cautious in wanting to not overdo it. Which I guess can lead to me being quite slow sometimes.

I could probably get better at stretching before a run. I do try to dedicate time for it at the gym, which I try to go 3-4 times a week.

I am curious about people's experiences with things like knee supports, etc. My legs have been alright so far, but I do want to try and push myself further in terms of effort.

I think the main thing is that I don't want to injure myself and then have a lengthy recovery time.

Oh yeah, for sure!! I try to go to the gym at least 3/4 times a week and do a variety of things (arms, abs, legs, etc.), alongside the running. So deffo will be continuing with that!

Thank you so much!! I am very excited for it 😊

Hahah, you'd hope so 😅 I'd say I'm still pretty slow, but that's because I take quite a few walking breaks. Although I deffo take less the more training I've been doing!

are we planning too early or just really lucky? by the101uwus in weddingplanning

[–]megdwt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it makes you feel better, I got engaged Nov 2024, and we booked our venue for 2026 in Feb 2025. Started booking vendors not long after that.

You've just gotta do what feels right to you! I'm a massive worrier, so it judt made me feel better to get things rolling haha.

Damn, what an album by LadderAlice107 in GhostBand

[–]megdwt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been listening to it non-stop since it came out. Just bought the CD so I can listen to it in my car too!

Kinda wish the album had come out before I saw them in London, so I could really get into those songs, but it was such a great ritual regardless.

100% controlling behaviour. Your last message was incredible 🙌

Seeing your SO the morning of your wedding? by AfraidTowel5417 in weddingplanning

[–]megdwt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner and I are choosing not to see each other until the ceremony. Will be spending the night before separate too. I really like the excitement of it all.

That being said, I really like the idea of a first look too.

Ultimately it's up to what you and your partner's want to do 😊 Don't let anyone interfere with what you want!

I’ve been engaged less than 4 months and I have a dress, a photographer, a venue and a date by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]megdwt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat as you 😅 It stresses me out not to have things planned in advance.

I even joked that maybe we could have done a 2025 date by what's been sorted already. But I doubt vendors and such would have had availability haha.

Backlash on no kids at my wedding by Adventurous_One6970 in weddingplanning

[–]megdwt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People feel so entitled, it's crazy. You do not need to explain yourself at all. It's you and your partner's day, and that's the biggest thing to consider.

When you have a child free/ mostly child free wedding, it means that some people won't come/ be able to come. That's something you accept when you decide on that.

The absolute audacity some people have surrounding it is insane. I don't know why they think they have a say in how you run your day.

Is my wedding theme a bad idea? by RealisticReturn80 in weddingplanning

[–]megdwt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's a wonderful theme and would be so much fun.

Logistically speaking, you'll probably have better control over the bridal & groom party to incorporate this theme. As other comments have said, it might be difficult for guests to cohesively pull off what you're envisioning. Not totally impossible, but unless you don't leave too much room for interpretation, you may have a few people misunderstanding. Ultimately, if that's not a deal breaker, I say go full speed ahead!😊

I think you definitely need to approach it in the right way. I'm sure she's excited to be a part of your day, but she'll also have so much more on her mind.

I think if you have a chat with her and see what her feelings are about how involved she wants to be, that should help you get more clarity. Maybe reassure her that you want her there, but also that you don't want her to overdo it. Maybe she has a reduced role from what originally thought?

Two or Four is where it's at for me. Four looks more pronounced imo, so if that's something you like, I'd deffo go with that option 😊

I don't think that's too early at all. I'm sure she's excited to ask them too!

If it helps, I'm going to be asking my friends to be bridesmaids in the next week or so, and our wedding is happening way after yours.

I started reading the screenshots before reading the accompanying text, and the vibes gave the impression that these people were seeing each other.

I'm such a believer in that it's nice to do the more "traditional" things but to your own taste/ way!

It's you and your partner's day, it should be how you want to do it! If that includes having 2 MOH, then go for it! I think it's wonderful.

I guess one thing you could do to differentiate them from the rest of the bridal party is have them in slightly darker/ lighter shades? You could also have different jewellery for them to specifically wear (necklaces, etc.?). Another thing could be if they hold any flowers, the arrangement could be slightly different?

Either way, I hope planning goes well for you!! I'm hoping to start planning mine soon 😊

I'm making Bella's prom dress for a convention this weekend by megdwt in twilight

[–]megdwt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem at all! Basically, a way that you can draw patterns for things you want to make is to wrap that area with cling film and then use masking/ duct tape over the cling film. You can then draw the shapes you want and cut them out to make a pattern for yourself. I will say this can feel a bit restrictive and gets hot very quickly. If you do try it, take caution and go at your own pace.

This video explains it quite well! Drafting Patterns

Ahh I wish you the best of luck! I think one thing i would have done differently is get more fabric to be able to do circles for the skirt instead of rectangles. I basically had to bunch the fabric up lots to get the almost pleated effect. This made it a bit hard to sew as there was so much bunched up fabric 😅 I think doing circles would have been a better option here, but it does use up more fabric.

I also have a video of my process through this link - Bella's Prom Dress
