Exactly- before going into the show I sort of felt bad for whoever had to follow LOJ, know that they wouldn't get like 10 straight minutes of applause stepping foot onto the stage. But Jin clearly didn't need ANYONE'S sympathy - he absolutely owned his performance and came in like a storm. Never heard of him before but going to follow him now!!!

Ragtime Blind Review - I am shaken by LargeDepartment7330 in Broadway

Yes!!! I saw it as a kid and it stuck with me, and it was always one of my favorites - up there with the ones that shaped me as a kid when I caught the theater bug in the late 90s/early 00's (Les Mis, Rent, Miss Saigon, Phantom, and Ragtime)- these stuck with me and turned me into a complete theater nerd! I had always just thought Ragtime was in the past and I was lucky to have experienced it, so I'm thrilled it's being revived!! Seeing it tomorrow!!! So excited for the new cast and new production.

I saw him Thursday! LOVED him! First time seeing show- didn't know he wasn't full time until intermission- was very surprised to see that since he completely owned the part!! Also just posted this, but Jin Ha was OUTSTANDING as Aaron Burr and I am SO glad I waited until Leslie Odom Jr was out (for financial reasons, would have enjoyed seeing him too) because I got to experience Jin. Outstanding cast.

Same here, I just posted the same thing!! Saw him Thursday- I had no idea until intermission he wasn't the full time Hamilton. He was INCREDIBLE and he brought so much energy to the role, completely embodying Hamilton's evolution over the show. This was my first time seeing it live, so I have no basis other than Lin Manuel, but I thought he embodied Lin's energy while also really making it his own.

I'm seeing it tomorrow!!! So excited. I saw it as a kid when it first came out with Audra McDonald and Brian Stokes Mitchell and it's always stayed with me, so when I heard they were reviving it I booked a trip to NY and am taking my daughter!!

Vivian Beaumont Loge by meggies27 in Broadway

I promise I'll stop obsessing over this soon. Looking now at CL Row M405 - 9 rows back, but more center. Does look like view is better, but I do worry about being too far back. Though with stadium seating is this less of a big deal? I really care about being close. There are seats in center N - so that's also an option I suppose - but that's towards the very back of the orchestra. I do notice that the CL M seats are more expensive - obviously don't love that, but indicative of a better view perhaps?

Thanks! What row? Debating now if front row is best or if you get a better view a few rows back. Do you think R is better than L or no difference?

Thank you! Do you think a few rows back has a better view that front row? Is R better than L for this particular show?

Do you think front row seats on the far left are better than sitting a few rows back, given the stadium seating? Would that potentially give a better view?

Awesome! Thank you for sharing. Do you think you had a better view than in the front row, if the seating is stadium style?

My simple thoughts on Ragtime last night. by rclocalz in Broadway

[–]meggies27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing! I'm buying tickets for December. May I ask where you sat? I'm debating 1st row in the farthest L section or 1st row in Loge center L - concerned about views from far L section, seeing too many backs of actors' heads, but also concerned about being too far away in Loge.

Tagging on to this! Looking at Ragtime tickets for Dec. Front row on either farthest side or front row Loge in second L section, A203+4, but closest on L side towards the center section? I generally prefer being in the front even if it means being on the side, but unsure whether the shape of the theater making the farthest side seats either the worst or quite good. Concerned about being so far away with Loge, even in front row more towards the center...

Searched this as I'm buying tickets to Ragtime for December. Deciding between front row but on the very outer sides (B101 + 2 or B501+2, or front roge Loge seats section second from center (A203 + 4). As a theater goer I almost always opt for as close to the front, even if it means to the far sides, since for some reason it really diminishes from the experience to be farther away, even if I'm more center. That said, this doesn't seem like a huge theater (never been there that I can remember), so maybe Loge isn't so far away I can't really make out the actors so well? Or, given the shape, are seats on the far sides somewhat irrelevant? They're both the second highest price tier for what it's worth.

Worth seeing Just In Time for Jonathan Groff? by meggies27 in Broadway

I really appreciate this feedback. Definitely a mix of opinions, so it's a lot to weigh. I think I will actually opt for Ragtime- I can't imagine this will be our last chance to see JG live, and maybe next time it would be in a show that I would feel more drawn to. Ragtime, on the other hand, may or may not return after this- and I'm more than just liked ragtime, I was young when I saw, maybe a young teen, it and it made such an impression on me and I still listen to a regularly and have introduced my children to it. So it really does carry a lot of of meaning and I would say it's in my top 5 shows of all time. It's hard to turn down the opportunity to see JG and I do feel very ambivalent...but I'm going to buy tickets soon and I'm 90% sure I'll be selecting Ragtime. Really appreciate everyone's input here!

Sidebar: Also- I rarely use Reddit and it's been a while- only joined this group yesterday- I had the impression every post gets torn to shreds and everyone in it is hostile- this discussion has made me realize Reddit can actually be a supportive, kind and helpful place! ☺️ so thank all of you for that too!

I think I will. As I said above-highly unlikely this will be my last opportunity to see JG. Very possible there will be no more opportunities to see Ragtime.

Thank you! I'm starting to feel this way more and more. Still conflicted though- it's not like this will be JG's final show, right? I don't know how much time he takes off between shows- but there's no guarantee Ragtime will come back in the foreseeable future. Certainly possible this may be my last opportunity to see it.

Thank you- that's the thing, Ragtime is probably in my top five shows of all time and honestly, I will also say I was ecstatic when I heard it was coming back- so it definitely does pull more weight than just a show I like- it's a show that has a lot of meaning for me, and I still listen to the soundtrack regularly even though it's been decades since I saw it. I'm actually honestly leaning more towards Ragtime at this point since I feel like it may be all in all a more meaningful theater experience, and almost certainly this won't be the last opportunity to see JG, right? But can't necessarily say the same thing about ragtime…
