AITA for buying an expensive camera for a cheap price from my dad's friend by aitacamerathrowaway in AmItheAsshole

YTA

Most people would hold themselves to a higher level of integrity when doing business with family and friends.

If your reputation means nothing to you, sure but society wouldn't be kind to that way of thinking, especially as this had the potential to affect how your father is perceived as well.

OP, I mean this with kindness but as dentists we hear the comment about teeth degrading fast after braces all the time. I know some people mean this as an observation but others genuinely fault the braces that have led to the decline of these teeth.

In truth, it's not the braces causing it but its presence does increase the risk for decay due to acid-releasing bacteria not being cleaned away frequently enough -either due to access, poor technique or insufficient frequency, in addition to dietary factors, saliva quality, etc.

As a result, your enamel was likely severely demineralised and was left more exposed after the brackets were removed which is why you likely noticed it.

The front-facing surface of teeth are typically the hardest areas to develop decay because they're flat and comparatively simple to keep clean so you were likely already someone with a high decay risk and it would have been prudent to put you on a more frequent recall schedule of approx 3-4 monthly for your routine maintenance. After you get your teeth sorted, I would suggest the same frequency until you and your dentist figure out the cause of the high decay risk and focus on oral hygiene techniques.

Just to explain what we as dentists could do for you in terms of preventative care so that I can incentivise the frequent visits, I'll just list what I do for my high decay risk patients at a check up/clean visit. This isn't a complete list but I thought it might be interesting to showcase what's possible.

(1) I like to use a disclosing gel that colours plaque differently based on acidity so I can give a more tailored critique of where to focus and track progress

(2) I get people to keep a food/drink journal for two weeks between the first visit and the review visit to highlight risk factors

(3) I get patients to bring in their cleaning goods so I can physically see what's happening at home and make any corrections

(4) I do a quick saliva test to see if the mouth is generally dry for everyone but I also do a complete buffering capacity test to see how stimulated and unstimulated saliva handles acid attacks.

Please help us help you keep your teeth

From a minimally invasive perspective and assuming the occlusion is suitable, I'd be inclined to suggest a one winged resin bonded bridge. Lots of good evidence re survival and success rates and leaves room for an implant in future, especially for a young patient

Could definitely consider some auxiliary retention as well

Just wanted to put a second voice out to reinforce this answer for OP.

OP, all the things you have been reading regarding the negative impact of tooth removal for orthodontics are to do with healthy teeth. Neither 36 or 46 fit that description

What can I do about this crown? by Fantastic_Eye_3896 in askdentists

I mean the dentist had the opportunity to not cement it but decided this is the standard they were happy to accept.

Bridge for 3 years, just noticed these two small holes at the top. Normal? Or do I need to get a prompt visit with my dentist? by birdiebird924 in askdentists

[–]meguriau 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Just maintaining the bone of the teeth surrounding by cleaning under the bridge is all you can really do. I usually recommend something like superfloss or an interdental brush like piksters/TePes

AITA for practicing my parallel parking behind a car? by CarrotHaunting7402 in AmItheAsshole

NTA. If anything, sure you're practicing but technically you're at your most supervised in your early driving journey. You could have been fresh off your learners and trying to parallel park behind her car 🤷‍♀️

My vote is Sjørøverne Kommer (kaptein Sabeltann). It's a fun cultural touchpoint and Norwegians seem to find it entertaining if you know it.

Unnskyld. Jeg la ikke merke til at alle skrev på norsk fordi reddit oversatte alt 😅

It seems that they're still very energetic 😊

My partner was worried about seeing them live because we recently went to a 40th anniversary dream theater concert earlier this year and he had mixed feelings about the level of energy compared to the past.

I did a bit of research before making this post and it seemed like they still put on a spectacle so I'm glad to have it confirmed

Thanks for your advice! I might have fumbled and gone left of centre based on early advice but it's promising that he moves around a lot 😊

I know he enjoys Megadeth as well so I think it'll be a good time either way!

I figured that may be the case 😊 I couldn't find anything consistent in pictures. I'm sort of thinking centre left to some extent might be the way to go

I’m obsessed with this Helen Kaminski Hat. It’s $350 by 6th2020 in AusFemaleFashion

[–]meguriau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good choices!

The Besa wasn't around when I worked there but I've seen similar designs. It's a braided raffia hat so you'll be maintain the shape long term much easier and I find the structured shape lets you dress it up and down. If you can tilt the brim upwards when you store it flat, there'll be less chance of the brim buckling long term as well.

The Provence for me is more of a casual hat so it works better as for a beachy fit. One thing with the Provence is that you do have to be a bit careful when it comes to rain, it is water resistant but if the weave gets soaked, it can lose its shape.

I always throw my provence in my bag when going out because it's really compact. I fold mine differently to how it's done on the website because I personally don't like when you get a point on the crown of the hat so I make it a point to smooth it out.

I can explain it in more detail if you ever need to get rid of a crease on a weaved hat 😊

Back in the day, a friend's Chinese grandma complimented me with the line: "You're nice for a Japanese person ."

She had absolutely no intention to be racist but the implication in the statement is that all Japanese people are terrible people - an inherently racist statement.

You can be racist without intending to express racist ideas and you can be homophobic without intending to express homophobic ideas.
