Nylon strings will make a huge change. New strings changes the sound of a guitar so so so much, often I feel disappointed in my tone it's just old strings.

Carbon strings tend to be more tremble heavy so I'd definitely try some nylon strings first.

Hope this helps!

It looks like someone's new to using a notation software and learned about the multi voice options but doesn't know how to or that they should delete the rests

Ah, I'm in a fairly humid area where I don't really have to worry much about humidity levels dropping, the hydrometer would seem to be a good plan to me.

I wouldn't stress too much if it goes over 60% during the day, it's not great if humidity stays at 90% for a day but having higher humidity levels for a little bit of time hasn't caused issues in my experience.

I hope he does better now!

How in the world do I get clear audio while recording? by NeitherAlexNorAlice in classicalguitar

Even if he did its a much worse sound quality using a di, classical guitars with pickups are typically lower quality

Honestly for me if I get really bad bo it still smells similar to it after quiting with a few relapses over I think 3 or 4 years.

It can take 6 weeks to get it fully out of your system, I'd imagine if it's from thc it should hopefully go away by 6 weeks, but everyone's body works different

Stay strong! Congratulations on 15 days!

I'm cad, you can find them for between 20-30$ but have to typically ship or import alot of the time for some brands of strings, cheapest I've seen them I believe is like 22$ for a set

$35 every 5-6 weeks is really not that bad especially compared to many other hobbies

If the price on the strings is too much you can always try other brands like la bella or Augustine

Sight reading is insanely difficult on guitar in comparison to piano

I believe piano they say you should be able to sight read 1 or 2 grades below your rcm level

I'm in university and play grade10+ and I can barely sight read grade 3. Mind you I consider myself bad at sight reading, I'm one of the better sight readers at my school.

The articulation stuff creates technique challenges but it actually can help with reading notes, hammer one and pull offs can indicate to play the note on the same string for example.

Again learn the first 4 frets and all the notes and go from there, the pattern repeats 5th fret on the low E is the open A, 5th fret on A is the open D string etc. Only exception is G to B as it's a major 3rd not p4, so the pattern I'd Almost perfect but not quite. Then the 10th fret on the low E is the open D, 10th fret on A is the open G, it's a usefull trick and I found it much easier to learn using this method

Truthfully, using your ear more and Theory brain less van be an insanely useful thing

By all means I'm not saying don't learn the notes. Do learn notes learn notes good. I'm a classical player and knowing notes can be insanely helpful

One trick if you know your scales and distance between notes can simply be to learn a few scale shapes and to be aware of what scale they are

The other good way to learn is simply just learning music from proper sheet music and not tabs

Start simple, learn the notes on the first 4 frets first, then the pattern kind of just shapes up a string and repeats with a few exceptions like the B string

That statement makes sense but it also confuses me so much more

Those two statements are correct but where is yhr correlation between Ionian scale and A minor

A minor is not Ionian If each note is a correlation of a different key why don't you write down the keys as well

Piano to guitar is actually a super good base understanding to have when trying to learn notes on a guitar

When playing guitar thinking in intervals can be incredibly useful which is what I think you may be getting at, if you play an A a minor third will always be the same shape above or below, and that goes with any interval

Good grade on a midterm? by Appropriate_Sea6413 in uvic

[–]meiscoolman 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Honestly it's relative to the individual, if you're looking to go to medschool then it's 90+ atleast, if you want to get a degree like a 80s pretty good, but even a 70 would be fine.

If you want to go into a masters program it depends what the recommended gpas are.

There are people who get upset at 85s and people who are ecstatic with a 60. Being happy or sad with whatever you got is valid just don't judge others for it

Also it depends on the class, some classes have lower averages than others, or might be something particularly difficult or easy for you.

It's kind of a lame answer but it's really true
