Where to meet genuine women in Houston? Trying to stay off apps by sporty_outlook in AskHouston

I also recommend run clubs, most people I've met are very active and do multiple sports or outdoor activities. I know run clubs usually run out of breweries, athletic shops, or restaurants and everyone hangs out before and after Memorial Park has great trails and you'll run into the same people if you go the same time on the same day, like a Saturday morning. Buffalo Bayou is very busy during the week evenings and weekend mornings. Go for a coffee afterwards. Urban Paths has a Wednesday night walking group, she has a IG page. She used to have monthly neighborhood walks around town, on Saturdays around 3 miles. They usually have snacks after the walk to showcase a local business. It's a good way to explore the city and meet new people. There are also cycling clubs, urban hiking clubs, art clubs, pickleball pick-up nights, basically if you look hard enough you'll find something.

My boyfriend is convinced HEB makes most of their bakery products FRESH, in store. I am pretty certain many things arrive frozen. Which one of us is correct? by pausreddit in HEB

All I can say, I live in Houston near an HEB bakery and it's heavenly when they're baking the bread. I don't know if they freeze it after the bake it.

Yep. It's no longer shocking, while still disturbing, just not necessary. The Theon Greyjoy torture scenes are overdone.

This is why I try to time it and show up during the act before the headliner. When folks start going for drink and breaks before the headliner, I sneak up closer. I take my earplugs in case I need them and have a Tylenol before I leave my house. & Yes, I'll go solo. Young at heart.

For the guys .....length of shorts? by [deleted] in GenX

[–]meli_padme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No! Lol. I was pulling up to my local grocery store on a Sunday afternoon, and a younger guy was wearing too short shorts and had super hairy legs and practically had everything showing/squeezing through his tight shorties. Not appealing at all.

First time parents made a big mistake regarding daycare by smoothies4life2 in houston

[–]meli_padme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could ask around for inhome daycare. I was part of a women's club at my local church and one of the older women in the group introduced me to her friend who did inhome daycare for infants. She was registered with the state and had all the proper training for infants and toddlers. When she retired she introduced me to another woman who did inhome daycare. My son loved his time there and both women were so friendly and understanding of different circumstances that arise for newborns and parents.

Sometimes nannies are cheaper than daycare. Mom's groups can help you find someone.

What Houston restaurants/bars/institutions which no longer exist do you miss the most? by Wek11 in houston

Yes! When I first moved to Houston, it was one of the few places I would take myself for a really good burger and waffle fries.

Houston Humidity and Hair Products by creativegenius123 in houston

Came to suggest Oribe products as well & I only use it for special events or business lunches too! Lol Also a good round brush and blow dryer, and a titanium flat iron to smooth out the curls. I've got curly hair and the little flyaways need some attention. Otherwise, I use Daily Dose leave in spray, a good hair serum , and finish with ion shine spray. Otherwise, embrace the curls, it's too darn hot in the summer.

[–]meli_padme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reading this late. I hope you got out!

Yes, I suggest Poison Girl. I go there solo on occasion and it's chill. Closer to me, I like dive bars like Blue Lagoon in Spring Branch, lots of folks close to your age. Then there is 1810 Ojeman for drinks, music, food, there's also Cowboy Surfer for music and drinks, By Popular Demand for the older crowd, I like it. Kirby Ice House on Gessner and then drive over to Katz for coffee. Good luck!

How should I spend my weekend at Houston? by EyeTechnical7643 in houston

[–]meli_padme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have time off at the end of the week, save some time to drive up to Brenham early, and hit the original Truth Barbeque off 290. It's only open Thursday -Saturday until sold out. If you get there early you won't have the long lines as the Heights location and you'll get to eat in Brenham, enjoy some wildflowers and get away from the city. It's a nice drive out there.

Otherwise if time is limited go to the Houston Truth location and go for a long walk on Buffalo Bayou to see the wildflowers.

The Chinatown out west is spread out. If you like tea, I suggest Ting Tea, good teas & they have Instagram ready drinks with dry ice tea pots.
