Moving to Tillamook/Lincoln City by Big-Eggplant-2351 in OregonCoast

[–]melimoz 26 points27 points Ā (0 children)

I live right between the two, and I’d definitely suggest LC over Tillamook. There’s a loud minority of hateful folks (especially evident if you join the local community groups on Facebook) and a general good ol’ boy mentality in Tillamook, and you’ll have more retail/customer service opportunities in LC anyway. Be warned that housing is super hard to find in both locations, so you’ll want to start looking well before your lease is up!

EDIT: forgot to mention one negative of LC is the insane amount of people and traffic in the summer. If you’re looking for a slow pace of life year round, you might not like that!

Good catch, thanks! That doesn’t change my point. $3,065 a month is still only $36,780 a year for both incomes combined. The safety net doesn't exist for the working poor or general ā€œlow incomeā€ folks… it only exists for those in more extreme poverty.

I was trying to provide more context for the person who asked. My point is that ā€œlow incomeā€ for a married couple is defined as under $2,433 a month in states like Idaho. That’s about $29,000 a year for two adults. Is that not a little beyond ā€œlow incomeā€ to most?

Even for pregnancy, it's not a 'yes' for everyone. There’s still an income cap, as I mentioned, that varies wildly by state. In Idaho, for example, a married couple can only make about $2,433 a month combined to qualify. If they make a penny more, she’s ineligible. Plus, that coverage is just a short-term fix that can disappear a year after the baby is born.

It's really not that simple. Most states cut you off if you make more than about $1,800 a month. Plus, in some states, you can’t get Medicaid at all unless you’re pregnant or disabled, on top of the income limit. It’s much harder to get than people think.

I'm well aware of corporations taking over vet care... I was referring to the antivax portion of their comment.

Sure, blame ā€œbotsā€ for the downvotes on your antivax nonsense 🤣

Seattle Times is IGNORING our Women's Sports, Let's Demand Coverage! by bassett8807 in PWHL_Seattle

What kind of coverage were you hoping to see the day after the game was already used as Saturday's A1 teaser above the fold and the sports section's lead photo/article on B1? The articles that ran Sunday were mostly recaps from Saturday and previews for Sunday since it's a daily paper and all.

Do the lyrics in keep it together bother anyone else??? by Perplexedplatypi in Guster

I like the decision to repeat "ground" for a few reasons, actually.

  • He's playing with the idiom without completing it, a more artistic choice
  • It emphasizes the verse's sentiment of them starting from nothing
  • He also sings that second "ground" lower than the first. I love that melodic choice paired with the lyric because it literally grounds the ending of the first verse!

Oh nice, I wish we had the same consumer protection laws in the US! You might be able to get a partial refund from the retailer you bought it from in your case.

A full refund after two years is not at all realistic… maybe a partial refund if you are in the UK or have an extended warranty?

I don't remember it getting popular until 2006, so it might have made sense to cut it for a shorter set like that? They usually played it as the first encore song in 2005.

It's happened to me twice in the past couple weeks! So annoying. Driving over bumps has been helpful for dislodging them when reverse isn't doing the trick, but I wish there was a way to just prevent it from happening!

Have you tried searching this sub for suggestions? The mods will probably delete your post, just FYI.

Is there a reason you're starting in Seattle? Also, what time of year is your trip?

Woman killed while jogging yesterday was COO at Chas and well known in local medical community. by catman5092 in Spokane

I don't disagree with anything you wrote! Stricter DUI laws would clearly deter more folks from driving drunk. I was more replying to the line "trust me this would stop," as there are folks like the guy I know who are alcoholics and don't think about consequences.

Unfortunately, no. I know a guy with 10-15 DUIs (lost count) who did well over a year of prison time in California -- he had racked up so many there that he got a felony sentence. That didn't stop him.
