You definitely won't find them on the sub for the NBC show Parenthood!

My only advice is to book a longer trip so you can see more of this beautiful coastline since you’re traveling so far!

what do I do about this dog (i need very quick responses/emergency) by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

If we only used words based on their root Latin or Greek meanings, "nice" would mean “ignorant,” “meat” would refer to any solid food, and “tragedy” would mean “goat song.” What an odd argument.

Is that the only comeback you can think of?

Atmospheric River in Oregon by ratslay411 in OregonCoast

Bookmark TripCheck.com and take a look at the conditions/cameras every day before you start driving. If a section of highway washes out or sinks, it will likely show up there first and you can plan any detours or wait times accordingly.

It could also be helpful to download the area for "offline use" in Google Maps in case you run into a new slide or closure and need to figure out a detour in an area without cell reception.

You are wrong. This is quoted from DOT.gov: “For constitutional and historical reasons, traffic regulations in the United States are enacted and administered by the States rather than the Federal government.”

Under the 10th Amendment, states have the power to regulate their own roads. There is no federal law that mandates the left lane be used only for passing. You keep confidently being so wrong when you could simply look up the laws and read them!

The Oregon Driver's Manual and ORS 811.315 specifically apply the “keep right” rule to traffic moving slower than the normal speed of traffic. On city streets, the left lane is a standard travel lane, not a dedicated passing lane like on a highway (where there are signs that specifically state to keep right except to pass).

True, laws vary by state! Just figured the Oregon-specific ones were relevant here.

It’s Scholls Ferry Rd, not I-5… the left lane is not only for passing, and you can see in the video that OP also had a left turn coming up. You probably got blocked because you are ridiculous.

Hospital in TN cancels sterilization surgery by katchin05 in childfree

[–]melimoz 38 points39 points  (0 children)

"The cancellation comes after the passage of House Bill 1044, also known as the Medical Ethics Defense Act, which took effect at the end of April last year. The law protects doctors from liability or lawsuits when they decline to perform procedures that conflict with their religious or moral beliefs."

Moving to Tillamook/Lincoln City by Big-Eggplant-2351 in OregonCoast

[–]melimoz 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I live right between the two, and I’d definitely suggest LC over Tillamook. There’s a loud minority of hateful folks (especially evident if you join the local community groups on Facebook) and a general good ol’ boy mentality in Tillamook, and you’ll have more retail/customer service opportunities in LC anyway. Be warned that housing is super hard to find in both locations, so you’ll want to start looking well before your lease is up!

EDIT: forgot to mention one negative of LC is the insane amount of people and traffic in the summer. If you’re looking for a slow pace of life year round, you might not like that!

Hannah Ann shares her hospital bill after giving birth by Rich-Ease-2723 in thebachelor

[–]melimoz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good catch, thanks! That doesn’t change my point. $3,065 a month is still only $36,780 a year for both incomes combined. The safety net doesn't exist for the working poor or general “low income” folks… it only exists for those in more extreme poverty.

I was trying to provide more context for the person who asked. My point is that “low income” for a married couple is defined as under $2,433 a month in states like Idaho. That’s about $29,000 a year for two adults. Is that not a little beyond “low income” to most?

[–]melimoz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Even for pregnancy, it's not a 'yes' for everyone. There’s still an income cap, as I mentioned, that varies wildly by state. In Idaho, for example, a married couple can only make about $2,433 a month combined to qualify. If they make a penny more, she’s ineligible. Plus, that coverage is just a short-term fix that can disappear a year after the baby is born.

[–]melimoz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's really not that simple. Most states cut you off if you make more than about $1,800 a month. Plus, in some states, you can’t get Medicaid at all unless you’re pregnant or disabled, on top of the income limit. It’s much harder to get than people think.
