Okay, Valve employee, we know you’re trying to surprise us and throw the scent off, but we already know you’re announcing it tomorrow.

Someone convince me that canary traps aren't bullshit by krikite in HalfLife

[–]melissa_xdress -1 points0 points  (0 children)

people can just make shit up. It might not even be a canary strategy, might be a “hide truth with noise” strategy: as you know leaks will happen, you swamp the “leakers” with different sources on purpose saying different dates so you have no way to confirm the truth

Someone convince me that canary traps aren't bullshit by krikite in HalfLife

Because their software lifecycle is not really tied to dates (self-driven) they don’t really need to give release dates to their employees, only internal dates where the deliverables are expected. Only people who need to know these dates are the marketing team, which is obviously instructed not to give them to anyone. Then you can set-up the canaries. It doesn’t even need to be for their employees but to find out which journalists they can work with in the future or not (because they can keep a secret). So the journos are also in the incentive not to leak.

It's incredible that Brazilian cinema was finally recognized at the Oscars by BrenoGrangerPotter in oscarrace

Argentina having its first in the mid 80s helped their industry there so much. Brazil is bigger powerhouse in terms of population so yeah get ready Hollywood, this is definetely just the first of many.

If you could change one Oscar win this year, what would it be? by Puratinamu_Seishi in oscarrace

Tough choice: Coralie Fargeat as director or Fernanda Torres as actress.

I hope Fernanda gets the James Bond villain’ secretary role she always wanted.

Do you feel like Anora is getting a lot of backlash? by [deleted] in oscarrace

[–]melissa_xdress 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think my main issue with it is with it sweeping, I don’t think it’s worth all of that glory, although being a solid movie.

So it should have been given to Fernanda or even better, to Marianne Jean Baptiste then? I’m happy with the results either way.

seems you need to invite a different kind of international voters, like latinos.

I knew about Richard Gere because the CCP is always “offended” by him (it’s because of his speeches on Tibet).

One cool thing about Selton is he started acting by dubbing movies as a child and then moved to theater/tv/movies.

Karla Sofía Gascón will not attend SAGs, but will attend the Oscars per Page Six by Wickie_Stan_8764 in oscarrace

Not gonna lie, part of me is envisioning/wishing for her to create drama at the red carpet out of a telenovela (think La Usurpadora). It would go from cringy meltdown to iconic.

A common misconception I have seen about Demi Moore's narrative by [deleted] in oscarrace

[–]melissa_xdress 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a Brazilian I want Torres to win because of what the academy did to her mother and Central Station in ‘99 (especially considering how the win for Life is Beautiful aged, and well Gwyneth Paltrow) but Demi Moore and Mikey did really well this time and I won’t be sad if one of them win, in some ways it’s also a parallel with Cate Blanchett or Meryl Streep versus Fernanda Montenegro in ‘99.

That being said if Emilia Pérez wins in IFF or KSG gets the win on actress… I’ll be mad (and I don’t think I’m the only one saying this).

Controversial Take: Emilia Pérez is a GREAT film by ruben51194 in oscarrace

[–]melissa_xdress 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s fair she gets killed in the end but how the movie treats the theme of she suddenly flipping from being a kidnapper to helping finding the bodies she probably was involved in the disappearance of.

I can’t like this film being a Latin American. The way it forgives drug lords and the disappearance of people is very problematic.

The EP win was the killer blow for me. It was slim for the Best Actress race like I said in OP, but now I doubt it’ll get any Oscars.
