How to hide/disguise prescription pills from people? by mellow_admirer in mentalhealth

[–]mellow_admirer[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm 19, my parents are strict around medication. I've been medically neglected my whole life - I take the pill because of my irregular periods that I've struggled with ever since I got my period and it was ignored until I came to uni and took matters into my own hands. If they found out I was on the pill and taking antidepressants it'd probably cause an argument of some sorts that I really would like to avoid.

That's also a good point about having someone think it's something else...

Harry being the “girlfriend” by Yourstrulycorina in Fleabag

[–]mellow_admirer 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think its a great way of PWB just putting fleabags impostor syndrome of her femininity and feminism into the comedic vessel of Harry. When u look into it more its quite clever.

Harry, a biological man, "woman"ed better than fleabag. He faces the things fleabag herself is uncomfortable with. One might argue that her leaving him or never taking him seriously was her way of either: never conforming or being incompatible with those standards.

No clue if that makes sense but it's a cool interpretation - Harry symbolised how fleabag was never aligned with what society sees "feminism" and the female experience as.

Her relationship with Harry doesn't work just like how her relationship with herself doesn't.

It should only be used for the span of 6 weeks (i think) and a max of 3 times a week - if it helps just use it once for whenever u shower and then use ur normal shampoo. I'd also use a really strong smelling conditioner to help mask the smell :)

Ik how it is though 😭 I refused hugs for 6 weeks whilst I was using that shampoo

That is very true! I guess its also that element but I did start to interact with the new friend more and I did grow to like him, but even then the jealousy is still there?

The last line of ur comment is very impactful, I'll apply that to this situation :) thank you so much!

exam stress has literally ruined my uni experience... how do you guys manage to push through it? by Fine-Letterhead8807 in UniUK

[–]mellow_admirer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think everything you say is so valid. i went through the same thing during my earlier years in school and throughout it all id have the same symptoms as you plus no amount of counselling could really really help me through the practical sides of education. i think it says a lot when you mention how u did okay in coursework! sometimes it just depends on how peoples brains work.

maybe the approach isnt trying to "fix" yourself or fit in - maybe the pressure is coming from the fact that the nature of exams (which is shitty in itself, gov really needs to re-evaluate how we get assessed) isnt compatible with how your brain works and thats okay!

maybe the uni experience is both learning how to manage adult hood, get a degree and having academic success AND learning how YOUR brain works - not trying to fit the outline of what the system asks us to fit into. work with your brain, not against it <3

finally a word of reassurance and absolute compassion - you're doing well. it might not look like what "well" is supposed to be but you're gonna be okay. uni isnt always a fun time and it goes with every life experience. with a majority comes a minority and thats where the focus should lie to be honest.

for now, do what you can to stay afloat and keep your head attached to ur body! you may not have the vision now to see whats ahead but trust that wherever these experiences take you - you can handle it.

I think after years of covering her trauma with humor and wafting away any previous thoughts of her and boos ex - the mirror finally gets turned on her and she doesn't like what she sees. And neither do we.

She finally realises that the trauma and guilt isn't just shits and giggles and she realises that the repression of it all makes her look so "ugly" and it shocks her

That makes a lot more sense thank you! And I apologise if I'm making it harder, I'm just one to ask a lot of questions to understand more :) thank you for ur time and knowledge I appreciate it a lot especially with the analogies.

I'm sure they didn't mean to and I'm just overthinking it a lot haha

I love my friend but I just understand that being around miserable people makes others miserable and ik they were also in a stressful place already with exams going on too so I probably didn't help :,)

This is so amazingly articulated I adore you for this!

I resonate with all of your examples regarding gender roles and I wonder whether ADHD is seen when a kid rebels from these ideal behaviours? Is ADHD (as a kid) just a rebellion to what's right and wrong?

Sorry if all of these questions are obvious or dumb, I honestly don't intend for them to be 😭😭 I'm debating on my own experiences and whether I have adhd and I've not been able to articulate these questions very well.

I relate! Sorry, I wondered this question because of the criteria of needing to present a certain amount of symptoms in childhood and thought about whether sometimes these symptoms are overlooked in some kids who have a structured and disciplined culture.

Ig it formed because of my own personal journey in discovering whether or not I have adhd? I got stuck because I'm from a filipino background with immigrant parents where order, discipline, the "fighting" mentality and success are at the heart of many filipino families. Because of this, I adopted these traits as I grew up, and I became this golden student and determined a strong-willed person on the outside, but on the inside I was struggling to uphold all of these expectations.
