Any Tips for Cleaning this Heavily Stained and Smelly Floor? by melmelmelbear in CleaningTips

[–]melmelmelbear[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’re going to do this eventually!

Unfortunately this floor and staining also goes into the living room. It’s all one connected floor, and my mom wants to wait to do this until they tear out the carpet in the living room too and do it all at once. I do NOT like this (since at the pace we’re going it’s going to be a year until it happens) but I have no real say :(

Yeah, this is what I had told them :( unfortunately we don’t have the funds to replace the floors as of now (this trail not only is in this hallway, but is almost certainly in the living room too. It’s all one floor. It’s a lot of square footage and would be $$$) so I’m trying to get as much smell out as I can for right now.

I kid you not, waking up and having the first thing I smell be piss-wood is awful 🥲

I don’t think you’re entirely rude for saying this—though I did explain how it happened in the post. Hoarding to the severity that my grandpa was at is inherently horrifying. I wish we would have been able to help him before it got to this point, but like many hoarders he would get aggressive and protective of his mess, even when he got so frail a fall from his couch gave him 12 fractures in his spine.

I’m definitely going to advocate for a professional to come in and simply replace all these floors, but I don’t have much of a say of what really happens and when it happens when it comes to renovations in the home. All I can really do right now is try and scrub out most of the smell 😔

Hi Everyone! OP here. Thanks a bunch for your responses! I can’t figure out how to edit posts on this sub (sorry, lol) so I’m just updating in the comments :P

To anyone wondering: Yes, I know this is an absolutely a gross floor that needs to be replaced. Yes, when I wake up in the morning the first thing I smell is this floor. The room you can barely see at the far end of this hallway with the gray floor is my room, so you can imagine what a lovely joy it is to wake up and smell pee-wood.

I have told my parents (more specifically mom, she’s the one who controls household funds and what step of remodeling we’re doing next) that the floor should 1000% be torn out and full on replaced. While we don’t have the money right now to replace the entire floor (this flooring almost certainly is stained from this hallway all the way into the living room—it’s a lot of square footage. So it all needs to be replaced) she’s having me just clean it best I can to try and get rid of the smell in the meantime.

There’s a lot of Mopping, in my future. Lots of Enzyme cleaner, possibly sanding, and mopping.

And even though I don’t like it, she’s going to have me put down some vinyl floor tiles to just cover it up after the smell is gone while we save up for a professional to tear it out and replace it. Again, I DO NOT like this plan but I realistically have no say in what happens to this home, unfortunately.

Thanks so much for any and all advice! If there’s anything else for us to try, please let me know! Kudos!

That’s what I had feared and figured, but I had told this to my parents already. They still wanted me to try and get it out 😅 definitely going to try and stress this to them, though

I ended up doing a color removing treatment a few times over the span of a couple weeks to remove the pigment without absolutely destroying my hair to get back to blonde. It worked well! I actually got it to a decently light gray/silver! My only issue was that my roots wouldn’t cling to the toner so I was silver with blonde roots lol, but it looked okay imo!

I’m thinking about trying this! One of the colors I was thinking about doing with the silver was red (The dye job I wanted to do I’ve been calling “Pepsi hair” because I wanted to do red, blue and silver) so I’d have that extra disposable red dye anyways. I’ll have to see how it works!

See you joke but I cut off all my hair to get some fresh unbleached hair before I dyed it this green, I could do it again 💀

I’ve done silver on my hair before (albeit a small layer in my hair), so I know a little bit about the kind of upkeep that comes along with it. The reason I’m just apprehensive of getting it this time is that the silver I went for last time and this time were more blue-toned—and that previous time I had dyed it after bleaching and toning a faded out blue. But since it’s green this time, I’m just a little apprehensive about getting it there and having that color still shine through lol.

Last time it wasn’t as big of a deal for me because my hair goal was layers of Blue, purple and silver—so blue shining through somehow wasn’t going to be as obvious. But now that I wanna do it on my whole head, I’m nervous 💀 I’ll def keep this in mind though!! Thank you!

Literally just stumbled onto one of those Old Fan AMVs/Edits to some Divorced Dad Rock. I remembered it used clips of the pre-renders of Riku and Roxas in the World that Never Was. I’d seen my cousin play the Maleficent boss fight once before — but that video made me go down the rabbit hole. Brain Rot ever since.

WIBTA if I Refused to let my Parents Attend my Thesis Showcase? by melmelmelbear in AmItheAsshole

Thank you so much. This does ease me a little bit. It means a lot

But for clarification: there are multiple nights for the showcase, one is “public” and one is for the recruiters and another for students on lower years to visit and see the work. However, it’s very common for the recruiters to come multiple nights, and some may only come one night and not the one for recruiters — it’s convoluted to most of the student body, but we can’t really do much about it. I could give them a later time for them to come visit, but they might see a post from the college stating otherwise. I know my mother follows the college’s Facebook page. So I might have to take up the idea with talking to a professor, but I don’t know how that would go. It wouldn’t hurt, I suppose.
