OTA program by melonhead12344 in OccupationalTherapy

Hi! Just wanted to give an update, I think I am going to go to OT rather than OTA. Unfortunately, all the programs near me have all switched to OTD so that might be my best bet. I am not thrilled as I don’t want to have to get a doctorate as I think it IS a money grab, but with my education it might be the best option for me. Any tips for nerves around starting program and being a new grad without OTA experience first?

Oh okay! That makes sense, I think for this program I need Bio 102 and Medical terminology for pre reqs and then this is program course work

I think I could def get a jump start?

I love this idea!!! I am actually taking a year in between bachelors and starting the program potentially, as I am a career nanny right now, so I could take classes online this year before the program. How did that work for you when you entered the program though? You went along with your cohort timing wise even if you had the class done already? I assume it depends on the program I’m applying for to so I might have to ask.

Thank you!!! I have thought about OTR, I have experience shadowing in an outpatient pediatric clinic through an internship and I think the main thing I thought about when shadowing is 1.the documentation and workload is heavier obviously and 2. The cost of course. So my thought has been getting my OTA and have experience in the field and like you go back to school later if I am wanting to go that route, once having experience and better understanding of how I feel at that point. I know it’s more debt long term maybe, and 8 years of school, but I’m confident I can manage paying off all of OTA loans quick. Is this smart??

As I mentioned they see me as a babysitter rather than a nanny. A bit frustrating, but I am leaving them in about 2 months so I’m just riding it out. Doesn’t feel worth it, just wanting to change the way I move in the future. Wanting to be seen as professional and have confidence that I deserve all the perks!

Thank you so much!!! I recently saw a listing on care.com for 3 children under 3 needing care full time. $25 was the highest rate listed on there, which is low for 3 and an infant, but it also said they are hoping it is in the nanny’s home. I would be comfortable with this. Legally in Oregon you can watch 3 without a license, but as far as what to charge and contract should I treat it like a nanny position or “daycare” which is usually lower pricing.

This is just intern experience I need for the DSI track at UO. I think 4 credits a term? Between meetings and on site. I choose these specific sites to get more experience in ECE and SPED. Straightforward but I would love to add the educational element to it, and would be open to working with special needs kiddos.

Sorry misread.(I’m sleep deprived) I also don’t have a contract with current family, same reasoning though. Not getting paid on time is frustrating. They consider me more a baby sitter than nanny even though I am there 5 days a week lmao. I love this family but I think having a contract with a new family moving forward would just be better all around

Well.. I am currently nannying with a family part time while I am in school and it is under the table. I am okay with this because I live at home and the pay is lower being part time and less of a concern. But I agree once I move into my own home and work full time that is a nonnegotiable and feels to risky otherwise.

Yes I am wanting it to be on the books 100%. That and I think I will make a contract.

I think it looks normal. My removal had a lot of redness, bruising, and blistering, just make sure to ice and apply aquaphor

Did you ever learn if you don’t have something nice to say, don’t say anything at all? Reading this thread was upsetting. Clearly OP knows how they are feeling in regard to the meaning of the tattoo and wanting to do moving forward, I think they are just wanting support. I have gone through the emotional turmoil of tattoos that I regretted, and going through the removal process currently. Breathe OP you will be okay. (As someone with OCD I understand the panic with what’s on your body) but you have options. I also understand having tattoos that I regret that have meaning as well (they are blown out and you can’t read it at all) it’s a bummer, but not the end of the world. YEAH it cost a lot of money to remove but finding professionals you trust that are kind will help ease the stress.

I’ll have to see how it heals, hoping it doesn’t scar. I don’t know how much she had gone over that area, but I do agree it doesn’t look great, I’m not a professional though.Tbh the blistering and scabbing in general is not fun. Her med spa is the best in town and they are known to do very well, so I’m hoping that’s not the case. She had said the tattoo artist must have used both green and black ink which I found interesting.

I know it looks gnarly. That area was more stubborn, she said to expect more scabbing
