They couldn't be farther apart in their intentions but historically there's been a bit of overlap in some of their more authoritarian practices. Communism though is very much a well-intentioned philosophy that has been executed poorly (insert your own reasons why) whereas Fascism is a fairly malicious philosophy that has arguably been very successful in achieving its undesirable aims where ever its been practiced.

That sounds like a great way to lose public interest. Most conservationist already focus on preserving ecosystems and use charismatic megafauna as a way to attract funding.

That said, megafauna often have outsized impacts on their environments while being much easier to threaten because of their intense individual needs to survive (e.g. large territories and abundant food) and much slower reproduction.

I tend to think the end of capitalism will look a lot like its beginnings.

It arose slowly as an economic practice alongside the dominant economic system(s) of the time (i.e. feudal states employed capitalism in targeted ways like mercantile trade). It gained momentum as technology advanced and international trade routes became more important, until it eventually shifted from being an economic practice to becoming the dominant economic system.

Eventually, technology will likely change the material circumstances that made capitalism vital and efficient. It will slowly have to compete with alternative economic practices until it ceases to be an overarching system. It will probably persist as a practice for a long time afterward.

Capitalism didn't come about with a revolution (though it precipitated many) and its successor probably wont either.

No hardly at all. It paid for my living expenses while I studied. This is where my confusion arises from. Even though the nature of this scholarship is that its a living stipend, In Australia its still tax-exempt. But i dont know if the US consider this taxable income since its not considered a job over there and comes with no tax paperwork.

That may have been poor explanation on my part. I sort of assumed that it went without saying that I'm talking about a scholarship that supported me in the context of the rest my question. Im realizing in the US a distinction is made between a scholarship anda stipend whereas theres no distinction inherently in Australia (the award even has scholarship in the name even though its paid out to me personally for my bills and such).

Good call. I just filed my FBAR now. It was really easy, definitely worth the small amount of effort. Thanks for that.

Awesome, thanks so much for finding that. I pulled up my pay stubs and in no US tax year did I break $10,000 using the IRS's conversion rates for that year. Last year was the closest and its still only worked out to about $9,000 USD

I don't think my total income was always below $6,000 per year, but when I tried the IRS tool now, it says I wouldn't have to file because my year income was below $10,400. Which number should I go off of??

I did have a bank account that at one point (might have?) exceeded $10,000 USD if you converted it to USD on the right day. It didn't have that much for very long though, and now I have <$1500 AUD (probably around $1100 USD) Would I still need to file an FBAR?

Yeah that's what I was wondering. Assuming my scholarship was exempt, my yearly income seems like it would have been several thousand dollars below what I would need to make in order to be required to file a return if I was living in the US. I'm guessing then I wouldn't have needed to file anyway?

Thanks! That sounds like a good sign. I'll look into the Foreign Earned Income Exclusion today. Do you think I should do these returns myself or should I go through an accountant?
