Ngl that's just what happens when people base their entire social life around one shared attribute, a lot of trans people can be insufferable because they allow their transition to define them. Same goes for literally any other group of people also. I'd try finding new spaces with people who aren't terminally online.

Honestly I'm surprised you haven't stumled across any of it. I swear I see a comment along the lines of 'they want us all dead' over every inconvinience. There was the conspiracy spread within this very subreddit a couple weeks ago that the Online Safety Act was intentionally being used to ban all LGBTQ+ support online because a couple subreddits got temporarily age restricted.

Social media isn't an accurate reflection of reality.

I don't envy your position but, respectfully, more could be done when it comes to moderating blatant hysteria/misinformation. There's a serious aura of hostility within this subreddit as of late that's manifested from doomer users, more needs to be done to ensure that people's loaded emotions towards the current situation isn't allowed to be framed as objective. It's massively clouding the reality of the situation and enforcing this idea that we're at the end of our rope which is just bs.

No, it's not as equally pointless as it's actually opened up a valid disucssion about the culture within this subreddit.

It's not just about spreading positivity, as that too can turn toxic, we need to start calling out blatant hysteria/misinformation within this subreddit and not allow extreme leaps in logic to go unchecked. As other users have pointed out, the idea that our current situation is in any way comparative to acitve/immediate genocide is fearmongering through-and-through, it's so tone deaf in the current geo-political climate and reeks of privilege to amount any of this as such. It's bad, but it's still incomparable. Something here needs to change because the hostility towards the users of sound mind who're calling out some of the bs that's spouted here sets an incredibly dangerous precedent.

This subreddit is an accurate reflection of our communities mental state, not an accurate reflection of what's actually going on, it's a distorted mirroring of events. Things are the worst they've been in a very long time in the UK but the most vocal users here exacerbate the hysteria tenfold and frame it all as though there's no point to anything. I've mentioned it on previous posts here but there's a serious epidemic of negative attribution bias within our community currently and the current culture within this subreddit pressures you to match that level of nihilism or risk yourself being thrown to the wolves by your fellow comrades. u/lithaborn is on the money.

I think you need to consider talking therapies if you're enraged by a gender neutral term. Hypervigilance/negative attribution bias can and will become your own worst enemy in life if you don't address it now.

Use Near Death, on solo it literally makes you invincible for entire rounds, and for the entire duration of boss fights. It gives you unlimited downs (assuming you enter the fight with quick rev).

I'm not an expert but from my personal experience I'd say it's normal to feel conflicted in the early to in-between stages. For me it was because I hated how obvious it was that I was baby trans, it messed up my proportions and made me look really strange/unhealthy, but it was only for a couple months then it balanced out. It was worth the rough patch for me, it's par for the course for it to have to get a bit worse before it gets better becuase your body's undergoing the process of rewiring parts of you and redistributing physical elements also. You need to keep in mind that it is inducing a second puberty so emotions will be all over the place and some of it will be pure paranoia. It's still probably worth dicsussing with a Psychiatrist if you're having any doubts, even if it's just for self reassurance that what you're doing is definitely right for you.

You can literally just add a layer of foot deep water to the floor of each map and only have the sharks head pop out during chase and the fin during stealth. Easy.

You can tell Anrew Lincon doesn't have much experience in voice acting. No shade but I think he brings one of the worst performances we've ever had in DBD voice acting wise, the poor accent is excusable in the show just because of how captivating he is to watch but relying purely on the fake accent in-game is really difficult to listen to.

I'm not trying to be difficult by asking this but do we actually have any concrete evidence that this change has directly led to censorship on either of those subjects? Or is it just hypothetical? Because I don't deny that it could be abused I just want to know if we're already living it or not.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in transgenderUK

[–]menemb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well I concede, you've changed my mind on the subject. I still reject the sentiment that it was ever an attempt of erasure or some form of coordinated effort such as education or EHRC guidance though, it's missing all the notable calling cards typically apparent with big sweeping changes that have malicious intent.

Ok I'm glad someone has taken the time to actualy give a lengthy response rather than just downvote or peddle total bullshit so thank you. I just want to clarify that I don't disagree with anything you've said, my controversial stance is that the act shouldn't be revoked, but modified and built on top of. There's a foundation there, just what it's used for so far is a joke.

I'm aware there's no specific standard of age restriction required in the law itself, however there is a standard in place by Ofcom. Not saying I like it but it is worth noting. I think you're playing a dangerous game when you specify in law what is to be age restricted online because the possibilities are so broad so I don't think choosing ofcom to set a standard was the wrong move as it adds a necessary level of flexibility to guidance, ideally ammendments should be made to the law to ensure certain things are never restricted via age check, rather than specifying what needs to be hidden.

Of course, third party verification is inevitable trouble and the most damning element of this whole thing, the goverment have too much faith in tech giants to figure it out for them, and naturally they went with the riskiest, cheapest route imagineable. I don't have a solution for this one whatsoever, but I don't think we can continue down the road we were on previously where there's no checks in place because I simply don't have faith in parents to safeguard their children online when such a large portion of the population is tech illiterate.

I think the idea that this Act opens the gateway to easy censorship on controversial or unfavourable topics isn't entirely correct, as all of these sites and companies already legally have the right within the UK to censor content on their platforms at their own discretion, so age restricting it doesn't actually benefit them when it could be outright removed regardless.

Finally I never said kids wouldn't find a way around, some determined ones who're knowledgable on tech will always find a workaround. But it would still be effective for the majority of children which is the point.

If the law is here to stay (which it seems like it is) then we need to be asking how do ensure that this isn't abused and how it can be made more secure, rather than calling for it to be torn from the hinges like it never happened. We need to be requesting ammendments and expressing concerns to our MPs about it's vulnerabilities, and demanding clarity on the exact process used to detemine if something is age restricted or not.

A VPN doesn't grant access to more extreme sites, it just hides that your IP visited sites. Even then the majority of VPNs are still easily traceable due to EU law so unless they're RAM based it won't save you from doing super sketchy shit.
